okay some track time
okay got my friends 14 ready to go 07 zx14, full muzzy, flys removed, pro volacity stacks, knn filter, some stiffer springs, air shifter and 16/45 gearing the bike was running good he was coming out around 5000 to 5500 rpms 60 where in the 1.60s but he kept missing second gear with the air shifter 3 runs wasted so another freind of mines jumps on the bike he stages sets hes rpm with later ho told me was 7000 sounds crazy with 16/45 right? he nails a 1.48 60 foot nice but on 7000 rpms is hard to handle. but again the misses second gear dammit not again so he banged a 9.80s missing second. so we check the shifter out and loosen it up top a little more. trys it out and it goes in second gear good the owner bangs a 9.90 hes only 260 lol gives it another shot got to confident with the clutch at 7 grand and wheelys high comes down on the wheely hard. kept the bike up okay. the bike started back firing alot checked it out notice he push the header up some and cracked the pan under the header. went home fix the oil pan bented the headers back a little to fit the holes i start her up sounds bad alot of ticking dont feel or hear no leaks maybe its the header or gasket rings it was leaking before maybe it still is . i might just replace the header . what you guys think?

Which Muzzy? My M14 is higher than the drain plug. Pull the head pipes and install new gaskets and take a shoprag and place over the exhaust muffler outlet for a second or two and see if the ticking gets louder. Also look for cracked welds on header. Hope it is not internal engine damage.

its the original muzzy. yeah i was thinking about putting new gaskets . what messes with me is i put a rag like you said just to see if the ticking gets louder and it doesnt it doesnt sound to good i was looking for cracks but cant find none. i put my hand near the header to check if i feel any air but i dont feel nothing but it does sound like a bad leak. why would you think its a internal engine damage. the oil pan did crack but it was a light crack. im gonna change the gasket and header when we find one i hope thats it. but thanks for the info

Replaced my busted oil pan today with a clems pan. Now the brocks header is the lowest thing. While I had the header off I had a 2.5" by 2" plate wielded on the lowest point on the lowest header pipe. You may want to consider it if you have the header off anyway. $15

The Clems pan is a good idea but is welding a bashplate to the exhaust system going to stop it bending or leaking if the bike comes down hard?
Surely the best solution would be to fit shorter springs in the front forks to lower the bike rather than dropping the triple clamps.

Bob
I have a second set of forks that I want to have shortened. How much should have the shop
go? I do not want to slide the forks up. Most of the time I will have my 14 setting stock street
bike that I ride daily. Wish I had a second 14 to Drag/ Texas Mile Race and mess with it.
I ride up to the Ozark Mountains several times every summer now. So setting up to
Drag race will happen just a few times a year. Going back to 64 inches and I weigh 220.
Thanks

Loius, mine are lowered internally 1.5". I have a short 60 series front tire, forks slid up 3/4", and strapped down...when you gotta go low, you gotta go low.
I have the short drain plug on mine, and I have wheelied it. No problems yet, but I keep an eye on it and I have the forks preload dialed up to max.
1.5" blocks will do the trick for the street. You won't need to change the springs.

Thanks Shane, I have your drains plugs I got from you and many other parts you
had every time you went more aagessive with your 14's set up.:-) Wee is going to help
me with the Bazzaz I got from Lyle and I have several extra swing arms. Was thinking welding your old Spencer Cycle extension on one of the arms and maybe braceing
it some too. Looking at a Race Tech spring too. Wish I had a second 14 :-) if I keep
buying extra parts someday I may another :-)

I agree, the plate will not save my header from a hard wheelie. But I have been scraping it slightly under normal riding condition ( cornering on uneven pavement, speed bumps etc.) and I think it may help prevent scrubbing a hole in it. However, I really like BObC'S and Shane's set-up for wheelies.

Wheelies?? don't you mean avoiding wheelies BLK ICE? My philosophy for a low ET is all about not wheelying. On the track I run Muzzy links on the rear, set to the middle hole and I strap the front. Then you can launch hard and keep it down. On the road I return it all to stock height. Wheely's might look good but they're not quick.

Adding a plate is only going ti make the exhaust lower and scrub more often. You will regret it the first time that plate "grabs" the bump.

I haven't scraped at the track yet, but I did bevel the side of the pipe going into my garage. So, it is low...I wouldn't ride mine on the street when strapped all the way down.
