Carpenter head, Drop in pistons

Well since my ZX14 want sell, I guess I will go get me the Carpenter head and drop in pistons. I hope to spruce it up a little now that my buddy has the Turbo on his 14.

Yea I have people beating the door down wanting to buy my 08 Busa, even with the motor locked up. I have had a few tire kickers on the 14 but no cash offers. Lots of trade offers though. It's paid for and I do enjoy riding it to work and taking it to the track for T&T fun so maybe I can speed it up a bit. I can get a Carpenter head from a local guy who has one for $1500 outright. It's about 8 months old. the pistons are not too bad priced new. I know his 14 went high 5.30's in the 1/8th with a 50 dry shot with this head. In my area 14's are still no where near as popular as the 1000's or Busa's. But I like them.

I wouldnt buy a used head from anyone...UNLESS, I know it's origin and is still in use!!!

People say it's a certain name, but when it breaks then you find out it's not what they said it was!!!

If you are buying a used carpenter head, it will say so CNC'd in to the head. you'll have to have the head off to see it.

I have held the head in my hands. It is a Carpenter head and says so on it. I have ridden the bike it came off of. I have know him for years. I saw the head when he unboxed it from Carpenter. I would always buy used on parts. You can check them out first. this is local and I know him. The bike went 5.30's in the 1/8th. there is nothing wrong with used parts at half the price of new. He let a buddy ride the bike and he crashed going into a curve to hot and ran off the road (about 150 MPH) the bike is totaled, his friend lost a leg and a hand. The bike, a blue 07 was a bad ass bike. It would still crank up and run fine but the cases were hit and busted. It's just a pile of parts. He kept the bike and bought a white 09 Busa.

mid 130's in the 1/8th, It is High compression, I can ask him but I think it was the Muzzy 87mm piston kit. Adams spray bar tuned by Steadmans motorsports here in Alabama. the bike was 68" inches long, Not sure of the motor times. It got crunched before if ever even got to see the 1/4 mile. I just want the head, he wants too much for the cams.

The guy who wrecked it is named Marcus. He owned a bike but said a dog ran at him in the curve, he got off on the shoulder and washed the front end at a high rate of speed. he didn't actually hit anything but was tangled up in the bike some. His leg below the knee and hand was damaged beyond repair. The bike as you can imagine has no farings left on it at all, the swingarm is broken, forks bent, wheels look decent but would have to be checked, Exhaust crushed, no guages or clipon's left, radiator trashed, basically a frame with a motor in it.

There doesn't seem to be many camshaft options out there. I wonder if there is anything that works with just a supersport head? The Carpenter stuff is Big $$!

It would be nice to get 220 hp at a reasonable cost...but I'm not sure that even a 1441 will make that without cams??

Web has several weldup grinds for the zx14. And I think one grind is a base circle reduction.

Megacycle wont do zx14 weldups anymore due to excessive warping.
I highly advise checking all weldup zx14 cams for straightness no matter who did them. And straighten them to less than .001" if needed. After straightening check all the base circles for runout. That should be less than a thou also.

The zx14 head has small 26.5mm buckets so valve velocity is limited. If you want to make big power you will need Busa buckets installed. Which we can do for you.
