punched in drain plug!!!!!

loading my bike on trialer and drove it up the ramp, smack, ripped the drain plug back.
i still have plug, there's a little bit of metal missing. my question is, can i just have it welded back into place?
i already have oil pan off bike.

has anyone else had to deal with this?

what's the best fix?

should i just get a new pan?

please help!!! i still want to ride this year!!!!!!!

take it to a fab shop and have them move the drain to the side.

Or just get ahold of clem's and send them your pan and for 125.00 they will send you a shortend pan with the plug moved to the back, works great.

For 40 dollars did they shorten it as well, because in IMO if your lowerd even moving the plug to the back is not enough.

i'm putting my pan back on this monday, i punched the drain plug up into the pan when loading it on a trailer. got it welded back in, pan looks great. i have a new gasket.

to help the welding i took the plate off that's held on with red screws, in the pan.

is it really important to use exact ft/lbs of pressure on plate screws, and the oil pan screws?

i'm a little nervous about tighting pattern and i don't have a torque wrench. should i get one for this? or can i just tighten them with roughly the same pressure?

i'm really unsure how important that is.

The torque on those screws is 87in lbs which is a little over 7ft lbs. Tighten them by hand with a 1/4" drive set. The pattern I did on mine last night was as if you are looking at a clock; 12-6, 9-3, 10-4, 2-8, 11-5, 1-7. This is not exact because you have more bolts on the pan but you get the idea. It works best for me to do it in 3 steps gradually tightening more each step.

good info, thanks.

what about the red bolts inside pan, holding down the plate? my seem to have the red lock tight on the threads. should i use the red lock-tight and torque them also?

I've nicked up my stocker as well, and I was stock length and height with stock suspension settings. I would relocate the stock drain and maybe even shorten the pan a little just to be safe

+1 I just order a Clems pan today should be here by Wednesday. I paid full price $265 and will get a refund $140 for my core (my busted pan) as soon as they receive it. It was the best deal I could find.

But did you fix the problem by relocating the plug or just weld up the crack?

Not to thread jack… but on my stock height bike when doing a little off roading with my 14 (not by choice I was lost and following my GPS in the Deals Gap area this spring – big mistake), I had a rock tip up under the oil pan and sheer of the plastic deflector and take a chunk out of the oil pan bolt.

Not that this is a regular occurrence but I would suggest this mod to anyone regardless if your bike is lowered or not… stupid design on Kawasaki’s part if you ask me!
