THINNER HEAD GASKET

Are there any horsepower gains by going to a thinner head gasket on my 14 and would overheating become an issue ?

It has not hurt mine. and It seems a little quicker. I had the head off to put valve springs in it. I would not pull the head just to put a gasket on it though. there is not enough gain for the amount of work it takes.

Big_T112, where can I get a thinner head gasket and what do they retail for?

Did you degree your cams?
If so what numbers?

I did not degree the cams. Your not talking about a lot of difference in thickness. It's just a streetbike. the cams didn't move hardly any. the bike responds well to the throttle and I have ran my fastest 1/8th mile time on it since I have it back together. and the MPH was up a little.

I have been a step further on mine by retaining the standard gasket but only using one of the layers (the thicker one) instead of the three layers like it comes out standard.

I thought I would have problems but it was fine and I tested it well because I run it on the circuit at high revs for quite a while (about half an hour at a go). I have had the head off recently and and can confirm that the gasket was fine and not blowing anywhere.

The reason I had done this was because the thin cometic gasket which I had ordered did not arrive in time so I took a chance with the single layer. It worked very well.

I think Bill does that also ( just removes one layer ) This is something i want to test on the dyno ... We put a thin head gasket on jesse bike and set his cams to 105 / 107 .. If i can ever get Jesse to come over to my shop i will find out how much power it makes.. I think or was told it ups the compression about 1 point and that's not much....Starting at 12..1 to 13.1 you will not see much change .... The higher the compression you start with the less gain you will see .. If you started at lets say 9.5.1 and go to 13.1 you can see as much as 17% in power... But if you start at 12..1 your gain will be smaller , much smaller ( 2 or 3 % or less )... If you started at 13.1 and went to 14.1 you would even see less gains .. It gets to a point that 15.1 to 16.1 you would see no gain at all..
