Powdercoating my rims

The OEM wheel balance weights, should I take them off or powdercoat over them?
The powdercoater here says he dips rims to prep them ,someone said that if I blast,
to tape the bearing cups after bearing removal. If they are dipped to prep do I need to
seal up the bearing cups? I'm keeping the black theme going!!!
Should I use new bearings after pressing them out, my bike has only 4500 KMS.
I have just removed both wheels and just want to make sure I do a good job first time!!!
Thanks for any help.

You have to take the bearings out. The powder coating company here tapes everything up. If they have done a bike rim before they should know about the part where the bearing goes

All machined surfaces must be taped over and all threaded holes must be plugged. Remove bearings and install new ones after powdercoating. Make sure the shop is familiar with m/c wheels as the axle holes and brake rotor surface must be taped over or you will have a devil of a time scraping it out to get the new bearings to fit and the rotors to be flat. Powdercoating does add weight to an already heavy wheel but they sure do look nice. Good Luck. Oh, an rebalance the wheels with stick-on weights. LSL

Putting your $$$ in an aftermarket set of wheels is the way to go IMHO

The stock wheels on the 14 are just too heavy.

You could at least swap the front with the lighter zx6/ zx10 wheel and then powdercoat it with the zx14 rear as a set.

Make sure you balance your wheels after you mount the tires.
