Anyone Else See This Stuff?
I took these picture from DrewHerc130's post from the Connie forum, but this is the same stuff I'm seeing in the oil and filter after the the first and second oil change @ 2300 mile,
Any ideas what this is from?

nasty looking.
glad I change my oil at 500, 1000, and every 1500 there after - n - sometimes sooner if it looks like sludge, which seems to be happening since the filter relocation near the ground with the turbo setup.

the way that oil filter is butcher open ..I'd say most of it came from that

No I don't think so. He stated in the post that he used cutters, the same that I used.
This stuff was in the bottom of the oil drain bucket also. It's metallic what ever it is, attracted to a magnet.
I'm thinking that it maybe coming from the transmission.

Just imagine going by the owners manual that says after the first at 600 miles the next one is 7500 miles, which I can't fathom go that far.

Either the clutch pack is eating itself and did he beat the clutch up on the Connie? That is too large for carbon fluff, unless you can take that black stuff in your fingers and it powders like dry carbon or it is hard like clutch ka-kass?

I have more of the shinny bright matalic stuff you see in the picture. Is this from the clutch?

Not unusually to have a little crap in a new engine.
when you change the exhaust, go ahead and pull the oil pan to give it a good cleaning.
while you are in there check the pick up screen.

I'm going to do a couple of short mileage oil changes with regular Dino oil to help flush the crap out.

That wad in the photo is just break-in. You know how you can see a worn bearing shell and it is shinny [new] on some parts of the bearing and a gray worn area at other places on the shell? I found a piece of what looks like a flake of bearing babbitt. I then tore open the filter. Found diddly squat. And a previous post said that was not from the cutting of the cartridge. I agree. There is a lot of metal spec that could be flattened by the gear mesh and spit out, if not gear chips off the trans dogs or opposite slot on the bang to the next gear.
Either way, as long as there is no noise, no knock in the engine and it is quiet, I would not worry about how much you see there until the next dump of oil and cut into that filter again. I slide a piece of paper under the hot flowing oil coming out of the drain plug; then look for specs of metal.... The carbon is of no concern. Not a thing you can do under combustion and blow-down of these tiny specs you need with a magnifier sometimes.
It is monitoring that crank or rod bearing. Clutch material that is decomposing might be something to ask your Connie friend if he was beating the clutch up? Then there it is. Remove the plate that is deteriorating or burnt. I would still check that bike after a 500 mile run and break the filter open again. It might be a, FBA Connie about to let go.
Some things you find dumping oil:
1. Carbon flake in oil.
2. Bearing material in oil and/or filter ~ Other metal like trans gear flakes that take on a shinny like appearance like insert material. Tiny machined material that was not blown away but pushed against so as not to move or fly out until the oil moved it.
3. Clutch material ~ Gray on the pan is the steel rubbing off the high indent dots of the steel plates. Other material are the burnt pads that cook black then crack off the bonding of the friction plate.

Pissear.....What are you referring to in the picture that looks like the "wad" is just break-in stuff.
I don't have quite that much in the filter but it is exactly the same as the shinny stuff.
I thinking also that the gear shift dogs are giving me the shinny stuff in the oil. It is magnetic which eliminates that possibility of Babbitt material.
The trans is a bit notchy shifting, but getting better.
