Dude! Run 16/41 @64 inches. Best pass 9.02 and the stock gearing is perfect. If you can't keep the front down take out some gear.

Wheelie,
What gearing did you have before 16-48 and how does it compare? (do you have to short shift first gear, do you cross the line @ the top of 4th etc.....?

I have been advised to try 16-47or 48 but It would be nice to have an idea what to exspect.
BLK ICE, I have autoshift, all gears shift with a 10,800 chip, shifts right at redline. top of 4th in the 8th mile. gonna check out 1/4 mile Thursday night, should be right about redline in 6th, Smokin watched my video from Sunday , he didnt mention anything about my gearing. He just gave advise on some other areas of my riding, im always willing to listen and try to improve. oh yeah, I had stock gearing on stock wheelbase before 16-48.

400 miles it's not broke in yet .... They really don't make good power till around a 1000 miles .. Even brock said it takes a long time to break the 08 09 zx14 in and then the HP really comes up to where it should be ..He said his 08 after break in made more than his 06 ..

Are you not pulling the wheel when you leave? Neil out of Houston has 15/46 and he pretty much throws the clutch away and does not wheelie off the line.

yes, try one more time before making an adjustments, its obvious riders have different styles, you dont rev high on take off, I do, im leaving at 7k. I see allot of guys make a run then make changes, how can they tell what works, you may like your gearing next outting.

If your leaving at higher rpm you need to slide the clutch with alot more finesse.............if your leaving at lower rpms you need to snap out the clutch quick and get WOT almost imediately.........they are two totally different techniques.

Your clutch should last ALOT longer with more gearing but ultimately you should go with what your comfortable with Bently..............also dont rule out trying 16/42 you might like it.

Yeah if your only at 400 miles you should have a noticeable increase in power once its broken it.............like Smokin said 1000 miles seems to be the magic number from the two big Kawis i've owned.

Bently, the launch rpm for me at 16/43 was anywhere from 4000-5500. I tried up to 6500 and couldnt control the clutch so it showed the pan all night. Just be careful with that. That 16/48 will roll out quick instead of popping up like 16/43.

I think you would be bouncing the limiter in 6th! Seriously, I wouldnt know if it would make the whole 1/4. That gear would probably blow through the torque band so fast in 1st that it might not have time to lift the wheel. My son's old Yamaha Enduro is like that. 1st gear is so low it cannot wheelie but 2nd gear will.
You will go to set your Speedohealer with that ratio and the healer will flash "You shittin' me?"back at you.lol

That's good!

All joking aside, I was at the finish line a couple of times on Sat. and Wheelie seemed to be roughly half way through 4th at the finish line.

That checks with a gearing calculator that says he would be right at 10,000 rpm in 4th at the finish line, with a max speed of 130 @ 11K.

5th gear would hit the limiter right at 150 in the quarter, and if 6th is needed, would max out at 167.

The variable that could throw this off is that those numbers are for the stock tire. If the Shinko is taller or shorter or grows more, the numbers could deviate.

Gearing calculators are almost NEVER even close to being accurate no way in hell will that bike go 167 with 16/48 gearing maybe 155-160 but I seriously doubt you would see over 160 with that ratio.
