rear shock

Tomorrow I'm taking my rear shock and going to tighten the spring. My question is, how much do I tighten it? It needs to be as much as possible bc its giving WAY to much. Didn't know if there was a point where there was "too much"

Same here wheelie. Mine is so bad when on the front/rear stands the area where the fuel pump is bottoms out on the swingarm and the tire nails the unsertail if you stand on the bike and bounce up and down, and I'm not talkin about hard, just a moderate bounce.

the manual has a min and max length.mine was at the max(shortest, stiffest)from factory.i tightened it a 1/4 of an inch and fooled with the dampeners.helped some,i still think it's soft.it did change the height a little.

I think Muzzy or Schnitz has a part that limits the rear shock travel. Or www.racetech.com

they have a chart .click in you weight for a 14 and it will give you which spring to purchase.

Gold Valve kits.

Wheelie, I just put mine back in and I turned it 3 1/2 turns tighter, and it made a little difference, but not as much as I thought it would be. Like you said, it won't hurt to go ahead and go 4 to 5 turns if your having a problem with it bottoming out

Does anyone make a stiffer spring? Maybe even a progressive one? I dont really want to cough up the $ for an aftermarket if I dont have to, but this thing is way too soft in the ass and I am only 168#'s.

A newer model (2008+) Hayabusa spring will bolt right on and has a heavier spring rate so you will be able to retain ride height. Keep an eye on eBay and gut the spring from a Busa shock.

I went to Racetech site and clicked on the street caluator.

08 Busa stock rear spring .930 KG/MM

06/09 ZX-14 " " .900 KG/MM

one step up on the stiff side. Enter you'r body weight for your Bike on the Street Calicator.

It will show you stiffer springs in .50 steps. If the Busa spring is the same height and O.D..

You will be one sping up on the chart, your weight is the Factor and what are you goin to

use it for. This is a stock street chart.

I see no reason to buy an aftermarket rear shock(other than the extra low all the time look like ninjaboy's bike: which is cool). I am 300ish @ 64" wheel base, lowered 1.25" in front and 1.25" in the rear and strapped. I have dampener set at ½ turn from stiff as possible and the rear stock set almost as tight as possible. I never bottom out on the rear tire. I pull the strap tight at the track and pull a low wheelie off the line and it never touches. When riding on the street I release the pressure off the strap and leave about ½" of play in it.
However, when you tighten the rear shock it will raise the rear end a little, but the less you weight the less it will rise. My bike has the stands of a factory bike just 1.25" lower when I am not sitting on it. When I am on it, it drops about an inch in the rear.
Before the adjustments I rub the rear tire a lot.
It only takes shoe polish and a some adjustment to set your rear shock properly.

1. Mark the spot were you rub with some white shoe polish.

2.Adjust your rear dampener in gradually until it feel much stiffer. Then, set and bounce on it: test by launching your bike to see if is rubs. repeat until rubbing stops or dampener is all the way in.(If dampener goes all the way in , turn it out ½ turn and go the step 3)

3. Tight rear spring until rear tire no longer rubs.

4. Let me know if it works for you.

The busa springs is 13.xx kgs and the zx14 is 9.xx kgs. There is a thread on zx14.net with a bunch of people doing that as an upgrade.

Where did you get the 08 Busa Stock spring 13? I will double check the calicator on Racetack webb site. It shows what all stock springs are. I trust it over what someone posted on a Busa site.KG per MM drop rate.

13 is way too stiff unless you weigh 300 pounds. This is Stock rates not race Spring rates.

Hi guys, new here on this site and been looking for info; I set rebound and compression at 1/2 turn out from full stiff and gave the spring a couple of turns (around 5-7 mm) on the nut yesterday (did this after already having set front and rear suspension and STILL managed to bang the tag against the tire riding solo, new tag went in yesterday too). So far so good, but the true test will be when I take my girl out for a spin; I'm weighing in at 260 and I'm too much of a gentleman to ask her weight, but I peg it around 150. I stretched the rear 7" with extensions but have not lowered the bike, I might go ahead and get threaded links and a hayabusa spring, anybody here done this already? feedback?

If you dont change the spring yet, go ahead and run that spring nut all the way. I weigh 210 at 6inches over and it is still kind of soft run all the way tight.
