What does it take to run 8.99 or better ?
I have an '06 14 and run low 1.4 60fts mid 5.70s~low 5.80s @ 122~123 in the 1/8th. I "had planned" on running at The Rock (RAIN) this weekend and hoped to get into the 8s. After seeing some of the times of guys my weight (175 lbs) are running I'm starting to think that I have my goal set too "low". I'm at 62.5" ( was spinning at 64") geared 16/42 ( tried 43, but caused extra shift in the 1/8th), It's lowered-ext. w/ BDE S-meg, race map w/no flies, and I weigh 175 lbs. Any suggestions ? I also have a "built" Busa that runs low 8.80s at SWB so I can ride pretty decent, just not sure what else to do with the 14.

Those 1/8th mile numbers should put you in the high 8's as it is. Good luck.

From what I've seen those #'s should put you right on the line. If you could get the 1/8 MPH up to 124 to 126 you will definitely be in the 8's.

I'm already using MR9 w/no filter - taking the baffle out and gearing it 1 tooth taller didn't seem to make a difference in the 1/8th.

I know I need more mph, but short of trying ceramic bearings I'm not sure what else would help. I went 124.06 on one run but it was due to a hard launch (1.388 60ft) but slight wheelie and the ET was only 5.86. I know I can save weight by removing one of the rotors and rear pegs but don't want to go to that extreme. Right now I'm figuring low 9s and hoping for high 8s. It looks like I'm going to have to wait until The Prostar race in Commerce,Ga to find out.

brock and rickey were running 17/40 gearing, maybe that will help in the mph and et with one less shift

how is the air where you live? if the track has shit air, then it might be paying part in your low mph. either that, or maybe it's time for new fibers and a set of heavier springs.

I live in Easley,SC and was racing in Boiling Springs,NC (Shadyside Dragway) on Sundays. Just put in a new clutch pack from Cycle Concepts (the old ones still looked pretty good) and I was running Brock HD springs, although I actually like the stock springs with the aluminum spacers better. I can't wait to get beside the 14s with a lot of MPH and compare tickets to see where I'm losing the drive, because my 60fts and 330fts are pretty good. I think the air was pretty good this past Sunday (Sunday and 66 degrees here).

This was back a few years ago on my 06 zx14 at 62 inches ..

If i remember right that was on u4 with the air filter removed ..I weight in at 150 so at 175 you should go 8.90s or maybe better if you have some good air ..

I can match the 60ft and 330ft times but your MPH is at least 3 faster. I know weight plays a factor but do you have all the stock parts other than a pipe and PC on it, because it's pulling HARD !

I would not take much stock in my MPH ... BMP clocks back them seemed a little high to me ... I would run 123 to 124 at our local 1/8 mile track and the next day at BMP i would run 125 to 126 ... I would go more by the ETs on my ticket than the MPH .. Unopened motor with bolt ons , Brocks smeg , race map , lowered strapped , air shifter, just your basic bolt on crap ..

Here are two of my early tickets when i didn't have all the skills to ride the bike to the fullest ..

I think these were done on 89 pump gas with the stock filter in place ..

gonna take a lot of seat time. I would guess you are running 6.20's in the 1/8th. You will need to drop that 4 tenths or so, and drop your 60ft 2 tenths to have a shot at it. what tire are you using

Try a U-soft before you shorten it. I went from 64" to 62" because I'm short and can't get enough weight over the back wheel to prevent spinning at some of the tracks that we go to. When the tracks were prepped good 64" was definitely the better set-up for getting good 60ft and 330ft.
What do you weigh ?
