BTW, Avon Storms seemed to be a popular tire on the old forum. Any opinions here?
___________________________________________________________________
I ran the Storms, not my choice for the street. Good touring tire but not for an aggressive street rider due to low tack.

^^Thanks, that's what I figured. Any slow wearing tire has got to be harder and less tacky.

A few remarks have been made about the Shinkos being a couple pounds heavier. Anybody have any idea on weight comparos between other tires? That seems like that might be as important as grip since it's rotating mass. I believe tire weight comparo is on topic here, too.

Rook, the Metzeler M3's have a harder center-softer side as well. I got a great deal on them for $275 front and back to my door. Red1, I put the M1's on my 'Bird and really liked them, but almost dumped it during the "scrubbing in" period. Scared the shit out of me. So I'm taking it fairly easy with the M3's until I feel more comfortable. I've got about 80 miles on them now and starting to hit some corners a little harder, and they are feeling GOOD. I'm taking it to the track on Wednesday. I'll let you know.

I've heard good things on the M3, My cousin almost sold his bike ...till he changed tires (to the M3) He was at the front of a pack of 20 sport bikes by a 1/4 mile. It's a toss up between these or the pilots. This bike inhales tires so we get to try them all sooner or later...

the guy in post 1 is talking about hooking up at the drag strip. I run Michelin Race on the track and Michelin 2CTs and Pilot Powers on the street, believe me the compound on the Michelin RACE tires are stickier.

On hot FL roadracing tracks and using tires warmers I prefer the mediums

Very slightly offtopic with this one:
How could you best describe the cornering speed and
stability b/n the 180/ 55 and the 190/ 55 if you had a chance
to compare the same brand and model?

i use the shinko U-SOFT and never do a burn out and it pulles the front tires off the ground every time. with a 9 inch over stock stretch...the tread life sucks but it hooks really good....thats probably the only tire i will ever use again.....i love the way it hooks on the street.. havent felt another tire as good yet

I rode with a dude last season who told me he had a tire with a hard center for highway riding durability and softer sides for cornering. Sounds like a great idea for a tire to cover all bases. Any idea what the name of tire is and opinions of quality/performance?

Rook

Dunlop Roadsmarts are new tires built that way.

Went to the drag strip tonight and got a taste of the M3's. Holy Crapola they stick like glue. I was lugging down at the launch all night because they gripped so much better than the BT014's . Now to get those sides scrubbed in a little better...

I ran consistently in the 10.2's tonight, lugging it at the launch almost everytime. Sorry, I'm no Smokin', but I'm getting steadily better. Of course, I'm a fairly good size guy, and I'm at stock wheelbase, so I'm shooting to get into the 9's. I took a helmet cam that I may post. I'm running 16/41.

Smokehouse,

You an I seem to be running a similar combo. I scaled the bike with a nearly full tnak of fuel and it read 530lbs. Then I stepped on the scale with the bike and it said 775lbs. I almost shit myself. I weigh about 205-210 w/out gear. The scale said I weigh 245 in gear ? BS.

I too was shooting to get into the 9's but I think that OEM rear tire was hurting things a bit being that I'd have traction problems in second gear on the shift.

I'm going to try a set of Pilot Road 2's in a few weeks. I had a set briefly on my XX and I loved them. Hell, I used to cut 1.67 60' times with a regular pilot road with no burn out and 38 PSI.

The scale at the San Antonio Raceway was off as well last night. Had my bike weighing 485. I wish. Usually gear weighs around 20 lbs.
