Small problem with my 09 zx14

Last night i headed for the local bike night on my Green 09 zx14 . About half way there all the lights when out , turn signals , head lights , horn all went out ... I'm like WTF ! So i took it back home and jumped on my 06 zx14 and headed out for the night ...
Today i got a look at the 09 to see what was up.. The fuses were all good so i traced the wiring from the handle bar switch down to the body work to a main wire plug and found it unplugged ....Oh well maybe the dealer didn't get it plugged in correctly , so i snapped it back together and to make sure it was snapped inplace then i gave it a tug and it came right apart ... The tang that keeps it together was not working ..Rather than take it to the dealer for a new plug and wait for them to order one i just Zip tired together , it's not coming apart now for sure ...
This the first problem i have ever had from either of my zx14s... With all the beatings i give them i'd say i got off pretty easy ... If this happens to you , you know where to look ....

Good thing it wasnt at the track! Especially if you were racing that bonehead with the Vmax you would have never heard the end of it!

Thanks for heads up, smokin'. Pretty unusual - That wire conector you had problems with musta been really deformed. I'm sure you'll have no problem getting a new one free.

Yea that could've been a dangerous "oh-shit" moment, I'd be pissed! You should still take it back to the dealer for a new/stronger plug, I gotta feeling there's going to be a recall or something, just like the 06'&07 frame crack issue.

probly just a bad connector not every 09 then or there would be guys with that problem on 06-09

besides the kegger mod(and its not really proven?), any easy/cheap hp upgrades? im in the process of swapping out the 235 75 r15s for 325 85 r16s (6 in lift and lots of fender trimming lol) and i really should re gear it, but thats not in the budget yet....i have true dual exhaust(still need headers) and a cold air intake, but otherwise a stock 318

The last 318 magnum motor upgrade i did was for Mopar muscle Magazine ... I added a Vortec super charger ( 9 ) psi on pump gas .. I got some low 12s out of it , not to bad for pump gas 318 daily driver .. Only problems i had was smoking the trans 2 twice ... Paul at Turbo Action came up with a fix for the weak 500A .. If you have a 518 behind your 318 you will be fine .. MP offers a nice upgrade roller cam and ported Magnum head, that with a good set of headers is a nice bump in HP .. For 1100 bucks you can also get an MP 360 Magnum short block to replace that 318 block ...It an easy swap and good bang for the buck ..

I had a similar experience after I got mine back from the dealer following an engine rebuild. Had it for a couple of months, was riding home from work on a cold November night, and everything went dead. Just ran out of power. Let is sit, couldn't start. Had the wife meet me and we jumped it. I drove about 100 feet and it died again.

We put it in the trailer and took it to the local dealer. Found out that the alternator was not "secured tightly". They tightened it up and it drove fine.

BTW, after getting back the bike with the Brocks SMEG the bike was noticably buzzier then with the stock pipes. After tightening the alternator the buzz from the tank was reduced. I wonder if there's more loose stuff in there...
