new found respect
I have a new found respect for those of you who have installed exhaust lol. Talk about a royal pain in my dick lol. I didn't have the long extension or swivel, so i'm sure that that made things a little more difficult, but it took damn near 3 hours from start to finish. I ended up putting the smeg on for now, but will end up with the shorty gen3 can on after I take it to the track. I must say that I'm happy with how everything fit and I'm glad that I knew to use a shoestring to pull springs with because trying to do it with the supplied wire puller would have been next to impossible. I'll get some pics up soon.

I am looking at Brocks exhaust. I see how some are selling a smeg for the Allien head, etc.
I was looking at the gen3 with a standard can like most sport bike systems. I do not drag race much anymore. I am looking for more HP but do not want to loose the low end torque from 3to5 K . Which system? Does all of Brocks have the same head pipes.sidewinder excluded..:-) been there with a V&H on a 1980 GS1100 back in the day.
Shoestring on springs?

exhaust was easy.
after a while you can start dropping the engine/trans in a 14 with the already plastics off in 20 or so mins.

and just a side note let the RTV set up before starting the bike or you will have RTV all over your garage wall!! lol

Did you remove the horn and the lower radiator mounting bolts? Takes a couple of minutes and with the bottom of the rad' swung out an inch or two it's a lot easier to get to those header nuts.

all it needs is a little skim on the mid pipe, the pipes are slip fit

i ended up lossening the rad and swinging it forward after about 3 beers and 2500 curse words.
the shoestring trick is as follows...
1. tie a bowline knot or any knot that will allow you to have a loop on the end of your string that doesn't slide.
2. place the loop where you would use the string puller.
3. pull the spring into place.
4. untie the knot leaving your string the way it was before you started.
5. pull the string out from under the exhaust spring.
6. repeat on all other springs.
this will allow you to have more leverage by using a long string. hope it helps you guys. that's a trick that i learned working on yamaha banshees back in the day.

I know this is worth zilch at midnight when the store is shut but a proper spring hook is really cheap and would be a good addition to any biker's toolbox. I use mine for the sidestand springs as well as the exhaust.

try the string... guaranteed it works better than any spring puller. I use 550 chord, and it works like a charm.

Try safety wire & vise grips, make a loop, clamp it in visegrips, pull spring into place, release wire & pull out, repeat as necessary. You can make it any length you need & generally reuse wire many times. Cheap too!

I've even used safety wire in place of my springs on my track bike exhausts when in a pinch.

You're not alone, Bawls. Everything takes me at least three hours the first time I do it. Adjusting my chain was a big job the first time. I totally believe paying close attention and being careful with your own bike work pays off. Even if I could afford to have a shop do it, I wouldn't feel the satisfaction of knowing what's going on with my bike. I believe doing your own work builds a closer conection to the bike and vastly improves decision making when riding. I never encourage anyone to bring there bike work to a proffessional unless they truely hate doing mechanical work or if they feel the job is a super high safety priority that they don't feel comfortable trusting their own skills to (installing tires might be one of those jobs).
It is amazing how much you can do without any special tools. A set of sockets and 4 hex keys will get just about everything you need done.......and a shop manual.

Please excuse the ignorant question...is the RTV a different sealant than the Ultra Copper that Brock's installation instructions mention? Further, he does not mention putting any sealant on the mid pipe, only up by the header inlets. Please advise.

I hated installing brocks pipe, cause I didnt use a swivel tool, until 30m before I finished!
If you have the tools, and a brain, and think before you act, installation is a breeze!
It took me 10hrs from 2pm to midnight getting it in and done perfectly the first time.
mapped it 10 miles later, and that thing is a certified beast!
GO BROCKS! Excellent pipe!

I know this is old news to everyone but Holy Shite are the stock cans HEAVY. It warmed up enough to start installing my Gen 3 system. I think one stock can weighs more than the entire Brocks system.
