A spin on a failing economy? Aprilia charging for test rides in Daytona...

A "spin" or really something different? Opinions?

Make sure no-one ever tries out your product and says "wow, that's a really great bike, i may have to consider apprilia for my next purchase!" Great plan. Apparently Apprilia isn't aware that only courting their existing fans isn't exactly gonna keep sales afloat.

Let's see. 1 1/2 hour ride on back roads with different new bikes plus tee shirt and hat for $20? I'd do it if I wasn't 3500 miles away.

That's not a bad deal at all... hell, maybe it'll make the lines shorter. Wish I could go.

I am always in the market for a new #2 bike!

I would tend to think there is a mile long sign up list for this, however it is perfect timing for me (I am planning on hauling my bike out of the snow and down to the Sunny South around that time).

Mr. Fish / Steve, anyone know how I would go about having my name added to the list?

dunno... most rides in Daytona are on the "backroads" about 1/2 hour long.. not sure this is any different from a normal test ride 'cept the $20?

Any Dayonta peeps wanna comment?

if anybody is halfway serious about riding/buying a bike, $20 is no big deal at all! Seems like it would weed out all the tire kickers.

geez, people seem to be missing the point. sure a 1.5 hour ride on a new bike is worth $20. Hell, u'll eat thru half of that in gas if u'r heavy handed. and if it reduces the lines thats even more worth it to me. BUT... half the point of test rides is to get people who havent considered your product to try it out. once they do, chances are misconceptions will be reversed, or at least reduced. but unless it's free so buddy walking by goes "what the heck", you arent going to get that chance.

i'd say this is the best program: have your free 30min rides with a big lineup, then have the 1.5 hour rides with a minimal lineup for $20. that way everyone comes away happy (cept whiny commies who complain about how the rich people have more rights).

Only for an RSV Mille 1000...

20 bucks? 90 minute ride...yeah. Being a solely a sport bike guy and having ridden a RSV 1000 owned by a friend, I would pay ...only for new version of that bike. Memory of it from 4 years ago is still vivid. Light turn in like a...bicycle, stepping out the rear coming off slow corners from the torque and deceptive speed coming up on corners because of the v-twin cadence....stupid fun.

Ride safe...

yup, it costs them $$$ to transport, fuel, tires, fluids, brake pads, pay techs, etc etc and coordinate the whole event anyway. someones paying for it, and $20 isnt exactly breaking the bank. id have a much better time than buying $20 ticket to get into the shitty NY bike show anyway.

True, the past few years at Daytona no manufacturer have charged for test rides. But I didn't ride for a whole hour and a half either.

We'll see this year if Aprilia has a short line and the decision makers belong on a short bus.

I made a call, while I actually got to talk to a couple of real people so far they are unable to tell me if there will be a list or just a line.

One thing they did tell me was they did not think the RSV 1000R would be brought out for test rides… However they are going to confirm and get back to me, if I hear anything I will pass it on.

Note: My local dealership said they had no problem with me going on a demo ride, I would just need to pay for the bike first and if I did not like it I could bring it back and they would give me my money back less depreciation… What swell guys!

Below is the reply I received… I guess I have at least one more thing to do while I am in Florida.

Note: the RSV 1000R will be in attendance.
