More 09 testing .............

As most of you allready know i made a few passes on my 09 zx14 a while back and ran some mid 6.20s @ 118 with the stock exhaust .. 1/4 miles time of 9.62 ..
We had a 3 week down time because of Xmas and new years so i'm a little rusty ...Fast forward to Dec 7th ... My best 60 foot time was 1.59 but i blew that run with a wheely and put down a 6.18 @ 119.99 .. Later i put down a 6.15 @ 120. 40 with a crappy 1.61 60 footer .. It's hard for me to go from 64 inch wheel base of my 06 zx14 to the 57 1/2 inch wheel base of my 09 zx14 , it takes me a few test and tunes days to get my 60s back down to 1.50s that i have run in the past ...

I knew my 60s would be off so i wasn't looking for great ETs but i was looking for a increase in MPH ... All stock my best was 118 and with Brocks Smeg installed off my 06 the MPH jumped to 120.40 .. So i got what i was looking for with a jump of allmost 2 1/2 mph with just a pipe change ...Remember that is without a P/C , i just bolted the pipe on and made NO other changes ... Next week i'm going to swap out my stock air filter out with my BMC filter in my 06 zx14 and see what i pick up with that single change ..After i get some numbers with the air filter swap i will add a P/C and a Brocks street map ...Later testing will include pulling the flys and a flys out race map from Brock ...

Stay tunned ...Smokin ..

Yes it is Rick .. But it's a hole lot off fun !!!!! I want to map each change one at a time because i really didn't do that with the 06 ..The 06 got 2 or 3 changes at a time so it was hard to tell what each mod gained ...

Excellent...

Im all for going fast with the least amount of mods!!!

Especially in today's economy, one can go fast with very little mods!!!

Smokin have you ever considered boring your throttle bodies? I've been told by some good engine builders you will add 3-5 ponies in the top of your rpms. Lee Sheirts did this on my 1397 busa a few years back and swears by it.

its great that you are doing it incrementally. that should tell us what gives you the biggest bang for the buck. of course the brocks pipe woke it up. it will be interesting to see what an air filter and maybe some mapping will do. that bike is sharp, and runs strong.

I would personally llike to tell smokin to quit complaining about 1.61 60ft times lol. I understand that it seems horrible compared to the 1.35's that your used to but when you complain about a 1.6 it makes me feel like a complete retard lol .

oh wait... never mind I am... but still, it's not nice to rub it in

I'm to curious to see what a pwr commander and map will do, because by what I have seen on the 08 busa it isn't much.

Bently i'm thinking the same thing ... Not sure if the 09 zx14 is as rich as the 08 zx14 on the top end ....If the 09 is as fat in the upper RPMs a pipe and air filter should over come that , at least thats what i'm thinking .. I see no problem leaving the flys in at this point so no real need for low and mid range mapping ..But it is possible that even with the pipe and filter it still maybe rich on the top end and could pick up a few ponys ..I'll have to give Brock a call and see if he has put a 09 on the dyno and see what the fuel ratio looks like .. We know the 07s and 06s were fat up top and Brocks maps pull some fuel out in the upper RPMs ...Could be the same for the 09 and possible worse than the 07 06 zx14s ..

Right now the bike has more low end and mid range than i can use at stock wheel base so i see no real hurry to remove the flys ..That could change if the bike was at 62 or 64 inches of wheel base ..But i have no plans to make it longer because i allready have one like that ..

Also keep in mind this bike has only 350 miles on the clock and we all know they really don't start running strong till they get about a 1000 miles on them ..

I picked up a 16 tooth sprocket today and it is installed and ready for next test and tune ...I'll test the air filter the following week ..

Five things i like about a 16 tooth

Easier on the clutch

Better 60 footers

Moves the axle back a bit for much needed wheel base

Cheap mod with a big bang for the bucks

Much stronger roll ons ...
