Catalyst Drag seat?
Ive seen a few pics of this drag seat and it looks like it would work good, but my question is anyone here running one and still foot shifting? Im just wondering if it will be hard to get my feet on the pegs and make the 1-2 shift. And they also make a regular and slim version. Being 215lbs I guess I would get the regular? And how much massaging do these things need so you dont scratch up your tail section?
thanks
It would be nice to find a member in norcal with one of these that would let me check it out

It is harder to get your foot up, for sure. I found that with either seat that when I raised my leg to make the 1-2 shift, it raised the cg of the bike and it would start to wheelie. That is why I went to air shifting. Now I don't lift my feet until after the 1-2 shift. This also helps keep the bike "in the groove" for traction.
At 215 lbs the regular seat is fine. Be careful, it will scrape your stock bodywork unless you take precautions.

Its possible get used to riding around with the catalyst seat on. I rode mine like that for a while before putting the shifter on.
As far massaging the edges thats a definite or you will scratch the body. Get your file ready.
This was the best mod, especially for a stock w/b bike.
I bought the seat and raced before I even put an exhaust on my bike.

You could always send your seat off to Tobin as well... It won't lower you as much, but it'll get you down a little more. I've ridden a catylist seat fitted 14 and was able to shift just fine. I'm only 5'9" though.

I have one on my 14 and had a pad made for it at a local trim shop.. I foot-shift, but I also leave with my left foot on the peg. I put door trim/Autozone around the seat so that it doesn't scratch up the body work. Because of the lower COG I'm able to run mid 1.3s to low 1.4s 60ft every pass at 62.5". Next year I will be using a CO2 shifter. There's a picture of it on here somewhere, plus there's one over on Psychobike.com

I paid a little more than that so it's probably not a bad deal.

They are the same I'm sure. Catalyst has pretty good stuff, I agree with Nelson for the money it is a great mod. I am not sure it lowered my 60' much versus the stock seat but I am much more comfortable launching hard with the drag seat. You can't put a dollar amount on piece of mind. I am just north of Schnitz and they usually have them on the shelf, if they don't see if they could have it drop shipped for you. As far fitment, spend some time and then once you have got it I would reccomend a trip to Autozone or Advance and get some door molding. It is cheap, works great, and looks good. It is just a little insurance for your paint.

you can put the door molding around the edges. Mine touched in a few spots, so I put thick red vinyl(window decal shop--super cheap) in the places it was rubbing--- of course I did this after I scratched my bike. You can barely tell where it rubbed.

I tried taking pics, but it will have to wait until I get the bike in the sunlight...tomorrow. With the cowl on, there are two small spots where it rubbed right above the helmet lock(and the opposite side). It was touching under the seat, but with the cowl on, you can only see the two spots.

I'll pull the seat tomorrow so you can see exactly where else you might want to 'adjust' it.

Had to dredge this one up from the past. rACerRs, did you ever get your drag seat, and how did it help with your times/feel of launch etc...? Also, did you file the edges and put door trim on it? Has it scratched your paint any? I just got my Catalyst drag seat for Christmas (good girlfriend!) and want to take the appropriate precautions.

Really? nice, make sure to trim it well and add the door trim,
I didn't and it not only wore out the paint but broke the rightside of the tail.
I'd make a steel brace to support the seat right at the step ifI was to use one again.
When do you plan to test it? Give me shout next time you go out.

Thanks Rich. What did you use to trim/file the edges? I may or may not go this Friday night, depending on some late cases. I'll certainly let you know if I do. Hope your Christmas went well. rAceRs, where'd ya go man?

Hey Rich, I'm hoping to go to the track Wed. night. It's been raining and cold today, but it's supposed to be clear and 70 degrees tomorrow. I've shaved some areas on the seat a bit, added door trim around the edges, and used a soft rubbery material similar to thin computer mouse pads for some areas on the bottom. I'm hoping that will take care of any scratching issues. Hope to see you there. rAceRs, still wondering how you have liked your seat.
