Poll Question:
Big Bore zx14

How many of you guys would be interested in a reliable 88-90 mm bore in your zx14?

If so what would a block and piston kit be worth to you to be able to have really big reliable bores that would allow you to go deep into the 1600cc arena with a 66 mm stroke like the Busas?

This combo could potentially make make 260+ hp

would it be a kit like the muzzy 1375 with refundable core charge? id need more infomation before i decided on your question, but the 1375 was $2000 after core refunds and was well worth it.

Yea, I'd need more info.
When it comes time for me to do pistons, I plan on punching out the block as big as I can.
If you had a kit that includes a crank and pre-machined block, I'd definitely consider going that route.

We dont have specific details yet, its still in development. We are several months away from a tested final product. Were hoping for Feb/March

You would send in your cases and get your cases back so the VIN would still be yours.

Cooling will be greatly improved and the deck will be MUCH stronger and have less distortion under high cylinder pressures like heavy shots of nitrous. You will need to use a special head gasket.

The bores will be offset. Looking from the outside on an assembled engine you wouldnt be able to tell anything was ever done to the cases. The cases will be double stress relieved and the mains line honed.

An offset ground crank isnt mandatory but wouldnt be a bad idea to re-center the rods under the pistons.
We could include the crank in the kit. But getting a crank made isnt really a problem these days.

We are working on a cylinder head to feed this beast as well.

How many we make of these "kits" depends on demand. Demand would dictate pricing.

So you can see why I'm posting this poll. we need to know what you would be WILLING to pay for this kit not what you would WANT to pay. We know you would want to pay $1500 but thats not reasonable, we just cant do it for that, theres a lot involved.

But if theres enough interest we can make this available to everyone at a reasonable cost.

The whole 14 world would be benefited by this kit, would hopefully put to rest a bunch of the drawbacks that keep serious drag racers and top speed'ers buying the Busa over the 14.

Wondering: that bore with streetable cams and compression (IE 92 octane pump gas and plug changes no less than every 5k miles) I assume would be good for 220 or so rwhp? Think it would last 20-30k miles? I'd be interested then.

Were still working on the setup... but lets say we can go to 89mm bore and a stock stroke of 61mm... that would be a 1516cc engine. Because its not a stroker, rod angle doesnt change. I'd expect to see 240-250 hp with a good head and cams.
Maybe 10 hp less with milder cams and less compression for the street. ???

But these are just estimates.... we will have to see.

Y2KZX12R not sure if this relates but what about Muzzy's pro stock set up. Would he not have a big block or is it not cooled as it is a drag only bike?

I dont know if they are planning to make that available to the public.

I'll send the motor to you when you need it, Its a spare so there's no rush on it unless i blow the other one up LOL... I think it would be better to have the whole combination done by one co. Hey Jim,
Would the stock 44mm throttle bodies be large enough for these combo's?
Thanks,
Dan

I would also be interested in this as well. My primary concern would be longevity.
I would be racing on a weekly basis as well as riding approximately 5k miles
a year.

Were still working out the details and nothing is set in stone at this point. So I have no pricing yet.

Dan, the engine will want larger throttle bodies for these engines. We havent come up with a final combo, were working out the bore spacing, sizing, sealing, windowing, cooling, and head gasket issues now.
There is alot involved with this.

I hope this becomes a reality. It could really shake things up for the 14 crowd. You can build a 240-250whp reliable 08 busa that you can ride all day long for $5-$6K. Y2k, if you could build a 14 that does the same for around the same money, you will be a very busy man.

in for updates

you can get turbo kits for 5-6k and they will put out 250whp or more. I would be interested if it was 2k or around there. I used my bike for the street mainly, but if you could make it reliable, then why not! I would love that kind of hp for the street!

I here ya guys, Were trying to keep the cost down. At this point we are going to have to design a new wet liner. All the ones currently available wont work. Were trying to use a similar blank to keep cost down. If we have to have new blanks spuncast then the price will be a few hundred bucks higher.

We are trying to keep it under $3000 complete.

gilberjj...The tubo's on a 14 are much better than a 12 but still not up to par with a Busa...

For the 14 all motor is the best option...

under 3000 would be good. Im sure you would need to get the head done also. I wonder what kind of performance would you get with the stock setup. Just adjusting the cams.

Some news, Its looking like the bottom of the block boss is only going to allow an 87mm bore with slightly offset wet liners. Theres just not enough material to support the offset wet liner if moved out any more, and I dont think there would be enough demand for a dry block.

Keep in mind that the deck sealing surface will be ductile iron and will seal better than the stock, bored out, aluminum deck. These liners will take a turbo or heavy nos.

With a stock crank the 87mm bore would be 1450cc and with a 66mm crank it would be 1569cc.
