Shell Rotella T . . .
Of course we know it's a diesel oil; they remind you over and over at the auto parts store.
My question is, what's in it that makes it usable in our bikes, and why doesn't it mess with the clutches and other parts?

I'll try to explain as plainly as I know it:
Basically it is a SG rated oil, kinda old school with a synthetic kick
All the goodies that they had to remove because of auto cats are still in there.
Being a diesel oil they can have a better additive package.
That's all I know

Can't go wrong with oem filters. I also use the K&N's sometimes.
Is the Rotella T the 15/40 stuff you see at Wal-Mart?

I use Rotella in everything, even what it is made for, my Cummings diesel. I also use the Walley World Super Tech filters, ST7317 for the ZX and C14s.

I have about 1000 miles on Rotella T, and it seems to work just great. I have been running Mobil 1 4t racing synthetic, and that is $10 a quart! YIKES!

Oh man, I hate to get this started, but I am about to change over to synthetic. How does the Rotella T w/ Purolator Pure One filter that I've been hearing so much about compare to Amsoil/Amsoil Filter? Price not being one of the great issues.

Thats the conventional Rotella T. The synthetic is in a blue jug and is 5/40. Been using it in the 14 since new and no complaints. It is 22 bucks a gallon around here.

Careful of the Amzoil filters. Have a bud that is an Amzoil fanatic, and he had 2 of their filters collapse internally on his Valkyrie. He still uses the oil, but not the filters.

Did some reseach on this a while back..
Pure One Purolator was by far the hands down winner.
It filtered like 97% at a 10 micron size and 90% at the 20 micron size...the closest compatiion was like 93% and 75%...that is like three times as many particles making it throught the filter...
The overall filtering surface area in the filter was larger that all the others except one. And it was just a pinch larger. Surface area is measure of the available filter ability. the less you have the faster it gets plugged up and starts dropping oil pressure due to restriction.
Buy NO MEANS ever use one of those recyclable/reuseable filters. the are worst. Lowest surface area. And they only have so many little holes, once they are plugged, they are gone and unsuable again util cleaned

I found this article today on oil filters and thought I would pass it on. It may have been where the "dawg" got some of his information. Good article.
