Disappointed Dyno
I have an 07 ZX-14. PCIII, flies out, K+N air filter, stock exhaust. Today, a company was nice enough to put it on a dyno just to check horsepower for me. My air fuel ratio's were all good. My HP was 156.6. I expected it to be 165-170. I was disappointed. I see you guys do much better than that. Why do you think mine won't ?

Was it on a "real" dyno, such as an eddy current, or one of the inertia roller dyno's like a Dyno jet? It makes a big difference in what the readings are.

It was on a Dynojet. Does that really make a difference on the readings? Would it be missing that much HP?

Honestly, a dj will show higher hp than a real dyno. I thought maybe you had it checked on a steady state dyno, but if your bike is right, it should show substantially more on a dj.
If you want info about this, go to the factory pro website.

So now you are saying my bike has less HP! I have two friends with 08 ZX-14's. We all pull about the same, it depends on who gets the jump. Mine was the only one that was checked for HP, the others could not do it. The dyno guy said there is nothing wrong with his dyno. So am I being misled about the true HP of these bikes somehow?

Too many variables??
Could be a stingy dyno, tire psi, chain condition, etc...
Whats your elevation where you live. I personally live at 2600 ft and within 30 mins I can be at 800ft. Ive had mine dynoed at both and picked up 9hp. This also could be due to a different dyno but elevation does effect HP.
Personally I wouldnt put allot of faith in dyno levels and let it bother you. There are just too many variables that can give low or high numbers.

Don't use caplock to get attention to your post. It's considered rude.
If you don't know the difference between an inertia dyno and an Eddy Current dyno, then it'll be hard to explain it.
If you are really interested, go to the f pro website. He explains it much better than I can.

Yep. and if you know what your doing they make a good tunning tool and thats it ! If not they can promote good parts sales!! Don't sweat the hp figures, take it to the track and see what kind of mph it runs compared to your buddies as long as your sure his is stk or bikes are closely modded. If you dont want to run it im sure one of your group is a drag strip rocket ! Let him ride the bikes. You will learn more about your bike there then you will strapped to a dyno.....

Good point, but if I'm not mistaken, the majority of the dj stuff, aside from the latest models is Inertia wheel?

I use to ride with a couple of guys that had stock hayabusa's..they had them both dyno'ed at sea level at different shops. One put out 152hp the other 163. We ran our bikes a lot together and switched riders a lot. Guess which busa was faster......neither. They were dead even
For comparison purposes, unless bikes are ran on the same dyno, on the same day, back to back, dyno's are as useful as a limp dick on your honeymoon. All they're good for is a tuning tool. The whole dyno thing is an overrated, misunderstood dick stroke. Forget about it and move on

The dyno read-out is just a number. It should be regarded as a tuning aid which gives a before and after result for any changes made to your bike. The only real comparison between bikes is "same dyno same day". Don't lose any sleep over it.
