No offense but time doesn't always equal great experience. I've met harley and wing riders that claim to have rode for 40 years but besides doing the idiot "Easy rider" side by side suicide formation and riding in the "death spot" right next to cars, trucks, and semi's, they pretty much had the riding ability of a novice who is just lucky to be alive. Not calling you a squid but it's not smart to leave your gear home even on a little putt putt ride around the city, backroads, highway, anywhere beyond your driveway. A little visit to ride2die.com helps remind people how (besides common sense at the controls) gear and the quality of it really can make a difference.

Oh and dying isn't exactly just gonna help give us and motorcycles a worse name then the biased media, cops, and politicians who strive to "protect us from ourselves" have already given us....it raises the shit out of our insurance rates. Not just for the bike but Medical as well. So please gear up as Me and nobody else here needs to pay more if your philosophy has a unfortunate visit with Murphy's Law.

Thanks and ride safe....seriously.

Immature rider??? I'm 42 years old and have been riding since I was 17. I did not mean to say that riding WITHOUT a jacket is/was a good idea, it was just a CHOICE I made. Somtimes I ride with leathers, sometimes without. Crashing without leathers isn't going to hurt anyone else but me. If my dying gives others a bad name, I apologize.
But for the benefit of those younger, impressionable squids on here who need advice:
LEATHERS CAN AND DO SAVE LIVES. WEAR YOURS. IT IS ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA.

riding with leathers in august heat in florida will kill you just as sure as a wreck. i wear as much as the weather allows. i always have boots, helmet, and gloves which is more than most i see riding with the helmet on the turn signal. the helmet has to be the most important piece of gear.

EXACTLY. When it's over 90 degrees, I don't wear my leathers, sorry. Leathers + Bumper 2 Bumper NYC traffic is impossible at 90+ degrees. I ALWAYS wear my gloves, boots and Snell approved helmet, but sometimes I do leave my jacket home. Not the best way to ride, but if I had to wear a jacket when it's REAL hot AND humid outside, I'd just as sonn leave the bike parked.
Ghostman, I predict 6 or 7 pages now. LOL
