150mph... then BUGS!!!!

Wondering if anyone else may have an amusing and/or gross story about being hit by anything while riding. My story began on a long stretch of road along Long Island's south shore. I was zipping along at around 80 mph (slow for this particular road) when I blipped the throttle a bit to clear out the cob webs. Upon hitting the 150 mark a swarm of insects simultaneously thought it was the perfect time for a road trip and took off from the grass alongside the road and proceeded to cross just a VERY short distance in front of me. I swear they came out of nowhere!
The result was quite painful on my part, and downright deadly for a few hundred bugs. It felt like I was being sprayed with a bb gun. Pulling to the side of the road I found I was WET with bug juice! The hits were so dense that the liquified bugs actualy penetrated the vents on my Shoei helmet and wet my face a bit! Fighting off the urge to vomit I did my best to clean up, turned around and headed home. Arriving home thirty minutes later, my upper shirt was crusty and stiff with dried bug varnish. Took me damn near two hours to clean up the bike too.

One time a looonnnng time ago I running along the north shore of lake Eire in southern Ontario just before dark. Came over a slight rise, down into a depression and almost went down from the number of frogs I ran over. For about 100' the road was covered with frogs migrating from one pond to another. Did not even see them until I was on top of them. Makes for a real greasy road.

Not on a bike, nor me, but I once heard a story that a trucker arriving in an Alice Springs truck stop (middle of no-where Australia) in the dead of night with eyes lit up the size of dinner plates ranting about a giant 10 foot tall kangaroo that he'd hit on the way in (obviously taking something to stay awake?). Several other truckers wanting to verify his "tall" tale went outside to inspect his truck, and sure enough it was covered from bumber to windscreen in blood and fur. His story seemed to be true until another trucker arrived saying "ok!, so who's the idiot that collected the camel on the way in?"
Was funny at the time !!!

back in the early 80's, my dad one of the huge hornets that catch cicada's (you know the big brown and yellow ones that sound like a twin prop airplane when they fly by). Anyway, he was on his 1000L model running about 130 when it hit him right in the center of the chest. He said that the hit alone almost knocked him off of his bike, but when it hit it stung him as well. He barely made it home because he had an alergic reaction to it. There's something to think about for those of you who are allergic to bees.

OK here's my novice short story; I use to ride with my visor full tilt open. But this beautiful summer day I was crusing at about 50mph and bee flew into my helmet and was walking along my forehead. Worried that I might get stung still riding at 40mph, I choose to dip to the side of the road and swat the bee away looking like a crazy idiot!.I have Never ride with my visor fully open(the visor's first notch) again

Sure they will. I speak to cruiser guys all the time with horror stories. One guy at bike night said a rock kicked up from a car in front of him and hit him in the face, just barely missing his eye. He said it was a miracle he kept control of his bike yet he was there without a helmet.... not even a beanie.

I have twice got pised off wasps inside my visor. On one instance on a road that runs beside the Rideau River in Southern Ontario I had my shield half up and a June bug hit me right in the nose and exploded sending blood and shit into both my eyes (it hit me so hard I thought my nose was broken and had two black eyes for days after).

But the best story (and the worst story), is when about 15 years ago I was driving my bike in Southern Quebec along this rural two-lane highway I came up behind two slow moving transport trucks. The road conditions were the shit and I could not get a good look past them so I drove up nice and close to get ready for a quick pass. It was about that time that I started to smell manure (not uncommon in the country and I figured a local farmers field had just been sprayed). Regardless I continued to follow them for about 5-10Km getting more annoyed that I could not get passed all the time, during that time I was continusely getting pelted with rain / water off the back of the truck I was following (making me even more annoyed).

Finally When the road straitened out an I had a chance to pass the first truck I got on the gas and when I came up beside the truck I realized that it was a semi open sided (Steel Grill) cattle hauler… I quickly realized that it was not water that had been pelting me for the last 5 minutes, I then lost it and rather recklessly passed the second transport as well.

Within 3 min after having passed the second transport I was tagged by a QPP officer (I assume that this was a good spot to set up a radar trap because it was the only place for miles on Hwy 50 that you could pass someone). Only having the ability to speak English and with Ontario Plates I new I was screwed… this was further confirmed by the fact that our conversation started off with (In broken English with a French accent) WHAT THE F%&K WERE YOU THINKING… DO YOU KNOW YOU WERE DOING OVER 180KM AN HOUR… I then started to explain what had happened with the transport truck’s (that soon passed by, helping to confirm my story, along with the fact that I was all wet on a relatively clear day and starting to stink).

To make a long story short he gave me a load of Kleenexes let me off with a warning, and gave me directions to a gas station with a washroom, and I never caught back up with the transport trucks. To this day I cringe every time I am even momentarily stuck behind a transport truck… and even though in the back of my head I think of the cops in Quebec as all shit heads I think of the time this traffic cop with his big score of the week was laughing to hard to give this stupid Anglo a ticket.

Had too many experiences with June bugs too!

T-Shirt, Jeans, MC boots, Shoei Helmet. I USUALLY wear my jacket but then again I don't think going down on a public road (not a race track) at 150+mph would be good with or without a jacket.

If that is the case you're an immature rider and shouldn't even been posting your story. There are a lot of young14 riders that read this site that might want to copy you. If you were to get caught or crash or kill someone you would give us every sportbike rider in this country a bad name--

If you want excitement, join the Army and go overseas.

Immature rider??? I'm 42 years old and have been riding since I was 17. I did not mean to say that riding WITHOUT a jacket is/was a good idea, it was just a CHOICE I made. Somtimes I ride with leathers, sometimes without. Crashing without leathers isn't going to hurt anyone else but me. If my dying gives others a bad name, I apologize.
But for the benefit of those younger, impressionable squids on here who need advice:
LEATHERS CAN AND DO SAVE LIVES. WEAR YOURS. IT IS ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA.
