This may sound strange, but I had that happen on a Harley once.

I burnt the rubber off with a lil propance torch. Did not discolor pipe.

I'd suggest riding until it get soft/pliable then use a shop rag soaked in water and wipe off. You may need to reheat and do a couple times to get the majority of the rubber off.

After that when the shadow is all thats left, the mineral spirits or any citrus cleaner should finish it off.

G'luck.

Easyoff oven cleaner! Spray it on a rag THEN apply it to the pipe. Don't spray that stuff anywhere near your bike. Soak that spot good then wait about 20 minutes. It may take more than one try but it will come off..................

Yep, thats what I've always used. Works like a charm! I found out about it when I was spraying my shock actuator to get rid of a squeek on my TLR and oversprayed a built up shoe rubber mark on the pipe. When I went to wipe it off, the old crusty multiple layers of black came right off. Man after that I used WD40 for everything: chain, rims, swingarm, exhaust, .... if it squeeked, rusted, was dirty, or was bare metal it gets wiped with it!

Use 0000 steel wool. You can buy it at Lowes, Home Depot. 0000 steel wool will not scratch glass or chrome. Dip it in some laquer thinner and go to work. You will like the results. Afterwards take some semischrome polish to a mirror finish.

WD-40 works great removing old adhesive from duct/masking tape etc. Works just as well as contact cement cleaner. Won't scratch
Just let it soak the area a bit to soften the area then rub off.

WD40 removes chewing gum off leather sofa's, chairs etc.

Much better than the frezzo stuff, which can take the top of the leather with it.

Even Wrigleys support people didn't know that, cause i rang them desperate to get the chewing gum off our expensive leather lounge.

+1

for years I have used it on everything metal but the rotors...
also....keep it off the seat, grips, and tires too...
