lower front fairings
Has anyone had the problem of draging the right and left lower fairings when riding agressively.... I was on my favorite road sunday and went in to a long sweeper a little hot... Not the oh shit kinda Hot but i knew i was going to have to make an effort to stay in my lane... Made inital contact with the knee no problem.... Bike felt great and very stable.. kept leaning.... next thing i know the right peg in pushing up and i hear the sound of plastic hitting a belt sander.... thought it was my toe slider or some puck noise.... when i got stopped at the littel store at the top of the mountian i realized i had been draging the right front fairing, peg, knee puck, and toe slider..... looking back on it i think i need to clean out my pants.....

its been noted by more than a few, it can be fixed by installing stiffer springs to keep the bike from compressing in the corners. Weighing over 300 pounds, that was the first thing I did, and I 've only scraped the pegs once, though my big ass size 16 boots are always scraping. And I use my full tire, even ran it off the tread a few times with the stock tires. I'm guessing you are a bigger guy?
I ordered the 300 pound rider front and rear from Racetec, single rate springs. Front was still a bit soft so I upgraded to the next step stiffer - I hate front end dive when I'm braking. It's always nice to hear of another guy who is using there 14 for more than cruising or straight line racing! It actually handles itself quite well, IMO its the equivelant of the M series BMW's or the CLK Mercedes = big, heavy, faster than hell and they can handle way better than anyone gives them credit for... just dont roadrace a high end Porsche.
Edit: I havent yet installed the stiffer front springs. Soon as I find enough time!

well i'm not real sure what qualifies as big.. 210lbs 6'1" but i really need to get he suspension set up a little stiffer. it doesn't really dive but there is some noticiable play in the front and a little wiggle in the rear as well.. currently dollar crunched so i would say new springsd and shock are out but let m know what you think of the stiffer fronts when you get them in.

Figure around $250 for the springs if you buy them online, $300 from a local shop. Figure another $300 to install, but you can do that yourself if you got a front spring removal kit, I believe I payed $75 for mine. A skilled mechanic can do both in about 3 hours, including setting sag etc. Figure 8 hours for the average backyard mechanic. Not complicated at all, just a bit time consuming. Plenty of online help available for the settings to get it right (thats a hour or so of that 8 hours. 10 minutes for a pro).

I'm 6'4" 230lbs. Just yesterday I had the suspension checked/adjusted by a guy here in Austin - OnRoadOffRoad Cycles. He said the dealership had actually set it up quite well, but did some fine tuning. I could definitely feel the difference on the way home. Sharper and more precise handling, and took the bumps with much less mushiness. Very crisp feeling, yet still comfortable. Well worth the $30 bucks he charged me. He also gave me the name of a big time tuner/mechanic in town. I've already talked to the guy and going to go dyno BigZed on Saturday morning.
