Goodbye & Thanks - Qwick Out

Well, the time has come to say goodbye. I really want to thank the many of you who have taken the time to help out and answer the questions that I've had on the zx14. It has been a pleasure getting to know each of you and in some cases even meeting up and riding with you.
Due to some issues with my health and my career, I've had to make the decision to sell the 14, which I regret but fortunately the bike sold in only two days. Future plans are to locate my dream bike of 23 years... the 1985 ZL900 Eliminator. The riding position of the ZL will still allow me to continue to enjoy my passion of riding motorcycles and I look forward to finding one very soon. Any leads from you guys on the 900 would be much appreciated, as the old "Muscle Cruiser" has become a bit hard to find these days.
I'll still be around from time to time to checkup on you guys and see how things with the Mighty 14 are going. Can't wait to read the threads on how Smokin, 00Busa and the rest of you smoke the new Vmax. And I sure do wish Kawi answers the call to Zukes new B-King & Yamaha's Vmax soon. We all need to get on the horn and stir up some interest at the Kawasaki R&D department.
Take care, enjoy the ride and be safe out there.

Kevin

Hey Dube, it does suck. And yes, it's a combo of everything. I never did install the clip-ons, so if you find someone who might be interested in them, let me know.
As for the Eliminator... I still have the magazines from 1985, one of them is a cover page story. I've always loved the look of the old ZL900. And I'll never forget reading one of Kawi's ads back then...
" Zero to 50mph in 2.16 seconds, this bike will slap you back in your seat faster than your first grade teacher ever did".
Imagine reading that ad... in 1985!!! Too cool.
Hey, never did get your pm, try it again.

Sorry to hear about the health problems kevin'' I m heading in that direction myself with my back'' i have had three surgeries and i may need one more. I may need to get a lighter bike and ride less. The reason i wrote this is i had a 85 ZL900 eliminater new. Do you remember the cycle word issue taking it to the nines. I built one of my first turbo bikes with my ZL,after reading that mag. I can tell you it was fast and very comfortable for the time and i loved that bike''i wish i kept it many many times. Good luck and if i run across a decent unit i will shout at you.... Bill...

Thanks guys and I appreciate the lookout.

Bill, If that issue came out after the summer of 86 I missed it... I transfered overseas for security duty to Iceland for two years and became very involved in four wheeling.
Any downsides to the Eliminator that I should be aware of?

Its based on the 900 Ninja motor of course, and they didn't have the best valves in them. Report of valves sinking in the heads and some cam pitting..

Great info ZX, thanks. Infact, one guy that I called and talked to yesterday told me that his ZL has the "typical" cam noise that the 900's are known for???... not sure if there's a real problem with his??? Only has 9,000 miles on it and he said that the valves probably need adjusting. I don't think that my 05 Vmax called for a valve adjustment until over 20,000 miles. Maybe the inline four is a little different than the V-4.

Chad, Yes I did and I spoke with him this afternoon. It's been wrecked & repainted with aftermarket pipes. Thanks for taking the time to find it for me though, and sorry, I thought that I had already answered your pm. Been busy "Eliminating" the rough looking bikes, lol. Sure would be nice to find one in the southeast somewhere close to home.

Thanks for the kind words Superman, be safe out there.

ZX, The one in KC is a relist, good thing is the price has been lowered. Just got off the phone with him and I'm waiting on some close-up pics, Thanks.

N.Med, I'm hoping to find one that is mostly stock if possible. I've been watching Ebay, waiting to see if there are any new listings soon. Thanks for sending the link my way.

qwickster, sorry to see you go, dude! Best of luck to you, definitely! Keep in touch, though.

My buddy had a ZL900 when we were seniors in high school. I still love that bike and wish to pick one up also. My buddy was a motorcycle riding fool. I'd be on the back and he'd use me as ballast to do huge fukkin' wheelies on that thing. All the wheelies took a toll on the bike and it eventually seized up. Keep us posted on you ZL when you do get one.

Peace, breh!

I have an '86 in the garage that I am going to do a chain conversion on, I have a ZZR1200 motor to stick in there , so I have the original motor and shaft drive with 9k miles if you need spare parts.
