HIT A BIRD, GROUNDHOG, AND DEER (almost) WITHIN 5 MILES!
Just need to tell this story. Yesterday here in western pa, altoona to be precise I decided to go for a ride to state college pa for bike night. Anyway around 3 pm I left my house, geared up, and blasted down my back road at about 80. Next thing I know I see a black something fly up and smash me right in the chest. A fucking crow eating road kill. Blood and shit all over my jacket. So I turned around went home and cleaned up. Left the house again on the same road and noticed what looked to be 3 peices of wood in the middle of the road. The closer I got I noticed It was three groundhogs. I tried dodging them but missed and ran over one. Thing got stuck in my front fender and in my header pipe. Once again blood and shit. I saw nothing was broke so I decided to keep going. There is a series of s turns that I have been through 1000's of times, speed limites posted at 45. I am always scraping boots in these turns but know that deer are a major problem. So I am coming around the first turn and there is a Tahoe stopped in the left lane, letting 3 deer cross in front of him. At this time I am in full lean with no were to go. I prepare for impact but am trying to slow down as much as possible. I must have been on the front brake a little hard because I just barly tapped my rear and locked the back up. Needless to say I was now dirt tracking the big girl headed right towards the woods. I released the rear quickly and was then almost highsided off the bike. I went onto the berm of the road into the gravel, at this time my feet were not even on the bike! Some how some way I mananged to get her stopped about 20 feet before the trees. NO DAMAGE. The folks in the tahoe watched the whole thing and could not beleive I was OK. I sat there for about 10 minutes sweating my balls off. Needless to say I got back on and went home to grab the truck. This story is not bull shit.

Reminds me of a story a guy told me. He said he knew someone who hit a deer on a dresser Harley and cut the deer clean in two, without crashing. I responded by telling him that I heard about a guy on a turbo busa who hit a Bison at 200 mph, and cut it clean in two, without crashing! I told him that had the guy only been going 198 he probably would be dead.
But seriously, that sounds like some close calls, for sure.

I was always told that if it is more soft and pliable than you and your bike to cut right through it. I would not even tap my brakes for groundhogs and if I can determine that the deer in front of me are not some big bucks I'm gonna tuck under my windscreen and give it to bambi. Took the liberty of youtubing motorcycle vs. deer and this is what I came up with:

Wow! I think I would've been done after the bird S*!+ and blood.... Sometimes when stuff like that happens, it's better to call it a day so it doesn't get worse......Murphy's Law is a B!

heh heh I've cut in half a bigass jackrabbit doing 100+ at night, but hit a (smaller) cat at 75mph in the exact same spot as the rabbit and nearly lost it! My motto on that is "should have been going faster"!
Pretty hard to win a deer on bike contest though. Hint: aim for where you think the deer will be when you get there. Deer will NEVER go a predictable route, will NEVER maintain there pace and direction. Missed more than a few deer on my bike and in cars because I followed that rule.

This shit happens in Pennsylvania all the time. If its not the wildlife its the drivers or the shitty roads.
