Wanted: Info on Turbos for ZX-14

I am looking into a turbo for my 14 and would like to get some input from owners who have already been there/have a Turbo on their bike.

Who makes yours?
Was it a kit or did you make it up?
How do you like it?
How much power can be made safely with stock motor?
Any engine mods?
How much Power are you currently making?
What is it capable of? with and without engine mods

..........My friends think I am outta my mind.
All I hear is "like you need MORE power for that thing"

Any and All info appreciated.

Thanks, Jack

I have 7800 miles on a Muzzy Stage 1 kit @ 5lbs making 235hp at 4225' elevation. No engine mods, minor blow by at WOT. 200 lb rider, run 10.20 @ 146 avg. Don't count tail wind runs. Stock wheel base with Muzzy lowering link at the middle. This is a street set-up not dedicated for the strip. There are bikes with slicks and wheelie bars running in the 8's with the same top-end that I have. It is not the same ZX-14 and don't have a moments regret, also use pump gas only. Stock 14 at this altitude with a 190 lb. rider run 10.30 at 133mph lowered all the way and strapped with PCIII. Turbo kit also has a PC III which is not an option but a must. MPG avg is 43.3 one note is that you have someone map it on a dyno that has experience, above 5lbs boost you need a larger fuel pump with regulator..

the ATP kit is the only one thus far that does not require an oil scavenge pump for the turbo!

How far away is the turbo from the exhaust ports, where is it in relation to the center of gravity? I like the weight low and in front of the engine for cooling and wheelies, (or the lack thereof). Never have been above the third bar cooling but that was probably from the mapping and location of the turbo. Scavenge pump is heavy duty gear type with low amp draw. Would be less to worry about but how many parts does the bike have already?

I am not questioning the weight, location or stating anything other than it does not require a scavenge pump, and I like the fact the oiling system is foolproof.
I would hate to blow out cartridge seals, or burn up a motor due to faulty scavenge pump, which has been known to happen with other bikes using one.
Yes depends on pump....
I was providing some usable info, to make an informed decision.

to each their own!

Also ATP uses a superior turbo IMO... GT30R dual ball brg, capable of making ~475 HP.

Muzzy stage 2 has a nice fuel rail and optional larger injectors...and a plate to remove the stock pump and filter/ regulator... plus more $$$$

They all have pluses and negatives... depends what you want to do with it, and what is important to you personally.

The cyclelogic kit is the most cost effective, but I am skeptical of it reliability....I can not make any certain claims...
I have not built ridden, or tested all of them.
Heck, I haven't ridden any... YET....I decided to build up my engine, and getting all the engine parts has become an ordeal.

I think Orient express has built tested and ran all 4.... you might want their opinion rather than ours...and I am sure they will comment on all of the pluses and negatives of each system.

I was told Hahn assisted Harry with developing the ATP zx14 kit.... if that comforts you any.

Use my 14 for 99.7% street & highway. Tires last about 3 weeks lately and this is only 235 horse. Had the same concerns about using ball bearings instead of fluid bearings for long life in the turbo. If the pump fails you smoke, if a bearing fails you poke.I Build boost at 3500 rpms so you may build boost at 3000? Just me maybe, at the shop here we do alot of turbo work for diesels in the manufacturing and R&D end. Personally I would rather have something simple to fix. We use ceramic bearings in many of our high speed spindles and they are excellent but don't run any where near turbo rpms, they are also temp controlled and mist lubricated with Velocite 6 or 10. these main rotors on turbos spin 150,000 + rpms. You do seem to be having good luck with the ball bearings though, do you have an hour figure on their life?

Harry is your guy.
His web site shows Harley's because they buy more turbo's than anyone.
I have seen his work and I believe it to be one of the best I have seen!
He has a 06 making 310hp with a stock engine. He let me drive it because I was interested in a turbo. Unbelievable the power it makes. I was truely impressed!!!
Call and just talk to him about it.
