Install tips needed - Muzzy's full system.

Hi there gang,

My Muzzys M14/M10 will be arriving tomorrow and I wanted to get my ducks in a row regarding the install. I have seen several threads about full systems and some of the "gotchya's" some have had when installing. the search feature fails me in finding those threads.

What I'm going to do tonight is pull the panels and get the stock system pulled, that should be easy enough ... I think. I may even loosen up the radiator to give me some breathing room while dealing with the headers.

Someplace i saw I needed to use the copper silicone or such when joining the primaries to the mid pipe, is that needed?

I'm also gonna wire the ground for the PC-III straight to the negative side of the battery, avoiding any future hiccups and such due to faulty grounds. It's being mounted under the seat since I pulled the carbon crap.

Here's wishing for a smooth install, any feedback, comments and cautions would be appreciated.

First of all make sure the bike is cold. Remove the lowers on both sides, no need to remove any uppers. Remove the lower radiator mount that is mounted to the front of the engine cases ( Muzzy furnishes a new longer one ). Get your self a 1/4" ratchet, 1 - 12" extension or 2- 6" extensions, 12mm socket and a swivel. The swivel needs to go on the socket. This length will allow you to reach all of the 12mm nuts holding the stock exhaust. 2 of the center nuts will require you to pull the radiator out at the bottom a little to get to them. Make sure you have removed the mufflers before loosening the headers and dropping them. Get some new exhaust gaskets. Follow the directions as far as the assembly onto the bike. It is vitually the reverse of removal. Just don't tighten the nuts on the head until you have everything mounted. The #4 pipe will have a small heat shield that has to be mounted to it to protect the radiator hose. There is also some heat tape to stick to the inside of the lowers. Make sure you mount the new lower mount before installing the head pipes, just don't attach the radiator to it until the pipe is fully installed. Tighten all mounts front to rear including can strap. Mount the lowers and go do a burnout. Hope this helps you.

Hiya,

Exhaust gaskets ... can the original ones be used at only 1300 miles?

If you have a dealership nearby, get some new exhaust gaskets and install them for the heck of it. They are CHEAP and could eliminate the possibility of having to remove the headers again if the old gaskets start leaking.

Yup, called a buddy who works at a Kawi dealership across town who had them in stock for 3 bucks each, got a set ready to go on.

Don't foreget to install the plug for the a/f sensor. I did'nt and initially thought the header was leaking. It was a big relief to slap some antiseize on the plug and install it to cure the problem. I only had 900+ miles and did'nt get new exhaust gskts. No problems there at all, just try to tighten them down evenly. Be careful around the radiator, the fins are easily bent. I used both 1/4 and 3/8 socket wrenches getting the header in. It's tight quarters and If I was to do it over, I would remove the radiator, but that is not necessary at all. I am not much of a mechanic but the pc3 and m14 were installed in about 6 hrs. I could do it much faster now. The fairings were a little imtimidateing but were'nt nearly as bad as I thought.
The bike is just an awsome machine. I normally despise turning wrenches but it was nice to get a little more familiar with it. I have'nt found a thing yet to complain about this bike, well maybe it likes to eat rear tires a little much.

When I installed my Brocks SMEG I ended up with an exhaust leak on #3 cause it is a bitch to tighten the header nuts. I dropped the radiator down giving me all the access I needed to tighten the header nuts up. Just remove the upper two radiator botls, the lower radiator bolt and the three screws holding the fan on; this will give you enough room to lower the radiator out of the way.

Took 15 minutes start to finish on the radiator piece. I would also recommend the Permatex Ultra Copper goop if you have it handy. Easy to use and seals nicely.

Where are you putting the Copper goop? Between the header and mid-pipe?

On the SMEG you install flanges at the header then the pipes slips in there. Then the collector to mid pipe and mid to muffler. I put the goop at those joints then attached the mounts springs. I dont know how Muzzy does it so cant comment. But basically where I had a joint I ran a thin layer o goop.

Also while I believe you dont need the goop it does provide some lubrication during fitment so seems to me to be a plus all the way around.

It's a matter of opinion on the goop. The Muzzy pipes fit together extremely tight, which is a plus and if you goop them all you do is scrape it all off when fitting the pipes together. I know on some other manufactures that the S pipe connectging the header to the can is sometimes out of round, I wouls use it the.

Heck no I am not happy, do you realize what it's doing to my rear tire life expectancy?
Nah, seriously I like it. Nice little power increase and it sounds really good. I am looking forward to hitting the strip to see what I got......
