Jay Ahs 14 needs help !!! :O

Hello Riders, I have a 06' ZX-14. Rode it the first 1100 miles ( Brake in ) stock. Then last year added a PClll, BMC air filter and a Muzzy Full ehaust lightwieght T. & PClll map for above additions. The dealer installed all of the above. Since then it has started missing and or stalling at least every other time i ride it. I only burn BP, Mobile and Shell Premium pump gas if not 100 octane fuel. Last year I took it up to the dealer and told them the problem, I felt that I had a bad PCIII, so I got another one, longterm, its still having problems. A new friend of mine told me about his 14 having the same problem and that he found out about a recall on a switch, or valve that was defective and that it would shut the engine off if it engaged in error. ( frontal area fuel line shut off switch in case of frontal impact ) to decrese fire hazard. My friend sent his VIN number and got a new part which is supposed to stop this problem. When I contacted my dealer they said my VIN number was not among the bikes that ( they said had this problem. ) So this tuesday after this holiday weekend I'm going to contact corp. Kawasaki find out about and order this part. I was wondering if any one has any infro on this!?<> Thanks

Sounds like a bad ground to the P/C ...Ground the P/C to the ground on the battery ground.

The switch you are talking about is the tip over switch ...On early 06 zx14 the bolts were to be check to see if they were lose ...There is nothing wrong with the switch other than a chance of the bolts that may be not tight ..

Pull your wind screen and you will see the switch ...Check the bolts and make sure there are tight.......

Contacting KHI will be a waste of time, they wont do squat.
Not busting on you, but why did you have the dealership do the work? Do you trust them? I 'used' to trust my dealership, but they screwed that up. Just trying to get a feel for your mechanical knowledge.

Your bike was running fine before you took it to the dealership? Make them fix it if you not mechanically inclined. If you're not mechanically inclined, we can walk you thru this stuff step by step. It pretty simple to make the following checks.

Did you(they) set the throttle position with the PC software?

Does it idle correctly?

Load the zero map and see how she responds. Zero map is the same as stock--transparent mode if you will.

Make sure you have a good/compatible map. Someone around here may be able to send you one if you're not sure.

Disconnect the PC and see if you have a problem. This is the quickest way to get to your problem.

Make sure you don't pinch the gasket that is in the powercommander plug.

I've installed several PCs on bikes, but the one time I helped out my partner with his '06, it was a nightmare. The bike started spitting fuel and running really rough after about 10 minutes and then it progressively got worse. Wound up being a fuel injector that went bad(covered under warranty.) Not sure if I screwed this up, or not. Can't remember if I disconnected the battery or not. Don't think it matters, but I don't know if that was the root of my problems or not. Now, I always disconnect the battery when installing or removing the PC---like the instructions say

As far as the recall, there was jno part replacement that I am aware of. All they do is remove the screen and retorque the two bolts for the tip sensor. If you haven't done this, do it. My dealership was clueless when I informed them, then they said "Oh, yeah, we did that to all the bikes on the floor." Needless to say, mine was not torqued to spec when i got it home. Then again, very few of the fairing screws were torqued at all---lost 3 within 500 miles. FWIW, the sensor shuts the bike off when its laying on its side---it works too

+1 on the ground, very common problem.

Thanks for the infro, I am mechanically inclined but behind on BIKE mechanics because I didn't ride for 10 years so I wasn't keeping up with tech. on it . I will check the batt. to PC ground and pull the windshield and check the tip over bolt tightness, thanks alot J.R.

The ground for the PC should be bolted to one of the bolts holding the overflow for the radiator. Thats where the instructions say to put it and that's where I put mine.

The problem is that it isnt a good ground for a lot of the 14s.

Once again thanks for the infro. Just got back from U.S. 41 Dragway in Indiana. Friend of mine has a 07' 14 with up to 30 lbs turboboost, ran a best run of 8. 86 and alot of other nice cars and bikes were there. Anyway, my bike is @ my friends house with the other 14 and we will be getting together Tues. to work on the things discussed. Thanks

Jay, what turbo is your partner running on his 14?

Sorry for the hijack, just curious what kind of build will take 30 boost.

The connector can become embedding into the plastic water bottle and lose ground. I put mine (and several others) under the 8mm cover bolt just below the recommended 10mm bottle bolt.....you won't need to add any wire to reach .......no problems ever.
