1000 miles in less than 24hours...
Ok here is the deal... Me on my Zx-14 Lou on his Speed Triple and Mikey on his SV1000(friends of mine of course)
Stated off on Sat 5/24 about 6:00am in Clearwater Fl heading south. hit Miami around 11:00am'ish then started heading north through Jacksonville FL, Went on up into GA at some little spot on the map and took a left heading West, hit Valdosta GA and started heading south toward home just outside of Tampa FL. Pulled in my garage around 2:30am on Sun 5/25. was in bed by 3:00am and was up at 10:00am with not complaints, not sore and realy not stiff from riding.
Just so you know, thats 1000 miles in one day, yes less than 24 hours. I personaly dont think too many people can pull this off but I could be wrong.
I will say that my '07 ZX-14 is not the most comfy bike, but it was good enough for over 1000 miles in a day...
For some of you that dont know about these rides here is a link to read up on...

stopped 12 times for gas, average about 100 miles a stop due to the sv1000's small tank...
took quite a few breaks actualy but nothing too long, average break was about 15 min except for eating which was really only about 30 min, had some sight seeing stops too, which made it nice...
hmm on mpg there were a few 50+/gal stops and mostly high 40's
was out for the ride not to break any records....

try that in florida on a memorial day weekend, it ain't happening, you rode some flatlands with no traffic i would guess. these guys dodged the heavy law enforcement and touristas, much tougher ride imho.

Long rides can be brutal especially in the heat of summer, so when I do then I ride at night when it's much easier on the body (it's cooler out) and you have less traffic to deal with also but there can be problems in very unpopulated areas (uh, wildlife on the road).
Best I've done was Detroit Michigan to Rapid City, SD which took me roughly 24 hrs and covered 1,200 miles. I left Detroit at like 7pm and drove all night, into the morning and didn't stop til the next evening when I reach Rapid CIty. My body wasn't really sore or anything like that, but boy was I tired. I try and pace myself in that I stop for 15 minutes for every 45 minutes of ride time. Fatigue doesn't get a chance to build up that way.
FYI - when I initially took the trip going east, I did it in the day time; my return was at night; night riding was much easier.

I did the equivalent of that twice in one week. From Ottawa Ontario Canada to Robbinsville North Carolina - 1699 Kilometers which is the equivalent of 1055 miles. Ottawa to Robbinsville on Saturday 17 May, ride around all week and return on Thursday 22 May from Robbinsville to Ottawa using the exact same route. In that 6 day period I did 4693 Kilometers or 2916 miles.

If you regularly ride big mileages then 1000 miles in a day is a bit easier. For any "normal" riders it awesome. I'd need a day or two to recover these days.
Ten years ago I did long distance courier work while I was between jobs. Had a Honda ST1100 and did round trips of several hundred miles without a thought. That bike did 125,000 miles in 18 months and never missed a beat. Hats off to anyone who does the Ironbutt, you guys are real bikers.

Im actualy planning the 1500 in 24hrs hopefully mid July-ish, all depends... When I do make this ride it will be my planning no one else, not that this last ride was planned bad or anything but its just one of those things. We took our time on this one and made frequent stops which was ok cause we wasnt rushed. Alot of country roads and all but was a good ride either way you look at it...
