Clunky first gear.
Yo !
So my 08 Zx-14 has 350 miles on it now, woot!
Since day-one it always shifted hard from Neutral into first, with a sturdy ch-clunk! Almost like some gremlin is inside smacking it into gear with a ball-peen hammer.
As a matter of fact, it ch-clunks into 2nd and 3rd as well, but diminishes with each upward shift.
Is the ZX-14 known for a hard Neutral to 1st engage?

Neutral to first is like that on mine too. Then my '02 12 and '03 636 were like that too.

Mine sometimes does it after a cold start when I engage 1st gear, like the clutch is dragging and just needs freeing off. It never does it when warm.

Sounds like your clutch needs a little adjustment? I had the same problems with my Suzuki, adjusted the clutch and it goes in and out of first much easier!

You guys and you clunking into first gear. I hear the same thing on other sites about different bikes. The clunking is caused by the clutch plates not fully releasing the input shaft of the trany. The shaft is still spinning and you try and shift into gear. Nothing much you can do about it but maybe turn the idle down a little.

Two things.. it gets better after the oil change and some miles. (I think it was around 4000 miles or so for me) Second... if you work the clutch lever 5 to 10 times before shifting... it also helps a lot. I don't really notice it at all anymore and I have around 7000 miles. (Hey I live in Wisconsin so my riding time is limited.) When I piped it, I also lowered the idle speed a bit and that was a help also. Hope that helps you feel better!

No problem at all. i just wanna make sure your question gets seen and not burried in the middle of a thread.
I just hit 400 miles today on my 08 ZX14, your mod list sounds exactly like what I'm going to do. did you buy the Brocks package deal?
Let me know how the change is when you go for your first ride when it's back.

The Street Meg comes with a baffle right? Was it that loud with the baffle in?
I'd really like the performance gains, but without a big loud nasty pipe.

work the clutch in and out a few times before shifting to first from neutral, also gets better with age and oil changes, i use motul full syn 20w50 and it shifts like butter at 6200 miles.
as for the smeg it is the sweetest pipe out there for sound and performance, runs just as fast with baffle in no removal req unless you like sick loud
