Dunno about the ZX14
Hi, I had 2005 Hayabusa, Honda Blackbird, and my last bike was Suzuki M109R. Been thinking of buying either the 08 ZX14 or 08 Busa. I don't know much about the Kawi only what a few dealers told me..And those dealers sold both Suzuki and Kawi...I was told the ZX14 will run HOT in town much hotter than the Busa. The only other bike I had that would heat up was the Blackbird..which I seen 250f many times in the summer heat. I don't want to get into that again with the ZX14 if I decide to go that way. Is there any truth to the ninja running hot?
thanks

The fan does earn it's keep in town traffic but owners who fit a 4:1 system find that the problem goes away. Don't know if the 2008 14 is any better. You've got a hard decision to make, can you test ride both bikes?

Some of them do run hot in stock trim. Mine certainly does. Adding an after market exhaust gets rid of the cats and that makes the bike run much cooler. The 08 14 has 3 cats. One in the collector and one in each muffler.

It runs just as hot as any bike over 1100cc, especially comparing it to my FJR1300 during the summer months it was really uncomfortable. I ended up heat wrapping the pipes, and it seemed to help.

Synthetic oil and free flowing exhaust made mine run cooler.

depends on your definition of hot.i've heard this over and over about the 14 running hot.im going on 2 years now with my14 and its never ran hot(by my standards).i live in jax,fl and it gets hot here!i go to daytona all the time and sit in traffic bike goes one bar above the half way mark and thats it.now my 2000 zx12 got hot!i have a variety of biker friends with various bikes, and the only bike out of our click that dont get hot is a 2003 zx12(dual cooling fans).so if you're gonna not buy the 14 because you're worried about a little temp, you're missing out on a great bike!trust that!

my 08 has brock pipe, Muzzy fan, engine ice and water wetter, but it will still jump up to 4 bars pretty easy.

The interesting thing to me is that the bikes in the cold climates run hot (5 bars on mine) and the hot climate bikes seem to be OK (Fla., AZ.) Go figure.

ya that confuses me too. the ZX14 I had, nor smokins, nor bigdtd's comes even close to having a heat problem in scorching FL.
Matter of fact first time i saw heat problem posted on this model bike I called BS as I had road mine on a 100 degree day and got caught in a traffic jam. Only thing overheating was me.

Install a PC and 4 in 1 exhaust and no problem.-- Even in bumper to bumper traffic at sea level. Also no heat problems at 96 degrees, 5,500 ft. above sea level and speeds over 195 mph.

hot is relative... if you are going by bars on the guage, it is not that hot!
the stat in the 14 opens at 144f compared to cars at 185 or 195f, the fan kicks in at 203, and will drop out at 194f, all figures as stated in the manual, once I put the zx10 fender on it, the fan has only come on 3 times all last summer! parked or idling in gear in traffic for 30 minutes...

Busa's run just as hot as 14's, but the heat dissipation just happens to be better managed; most Suzuki's are well managed where heat is concerned. Gixxers are a another good example of this as well...

It's a big motor - makes heat.............
Mine has been hot(overheated - flashing dash) twice - once on the dyno (no airflow) and once after 30 mins of 8000RPM+ and then not getting a proper low RPM cooldown before stopping.
Hot is one thing and overheating is another - hot doesn't matter.

Yo !
Just for comparison ....
Yesterday it was 92 degree's here in So. Arizona. 75 miles of semi stop/go and the bike got to 4 of 6 bars, about 205 degree's.
Still breaking it in as we speak, 430 miles on stock exhaust, crap oil.
