WHAT'S THE BEST GPS FOR BIKES

I'm in the market for a good GPS unit for a bike and was looking for some feedback from anyone on here who has experience with them. It would need to be waterproof obviously and something I can use with my gloves on. Any help would be appreciated.

Another goodie is the Lowrance Iway 600C. Nice big 5 in color touch screen that is not affected by bright sunlight. Uses NAVTEC maps with millions of POI. MP3 and FM modulator, waterproof, designed for auto, marine and offroad. Very rugged unit, picked up mine for $345.00 with free shipping. Even tough it has a hard drive there is no problem using on a bike. One of my Buds had a horrible crash on a Valkyrie, and his still works fine.

Lowrance iWAY 600 is not made specifcally for bikes...and for ease of use compared to the Zumo; well, it doesn't hold a candle to it...

Hard drive technology in a GPS is ancient, sorry to say....but there's a reason it cost 1/2 the price of the Zumo 550...you can save big $$$ by going to the Zumo 450.

I don't even think it has the high sensitivity GPS receiver that virtually all GPS's have today either; they are very vague on specs on the site...they are known for Marine GPS and nothing else. They're not even a blip on the radar screen in the Automotive and Motorcycle GPS markets...

ZUMO 550 all the way. Works great on the 14 and in my car. I used a mount from TechMount rather than the one supplied with the ZUMO.

Here's another way to install the navigator.

I'm not going to argue what's the best navigator for bikes since there's much room for opinions and IMO they all have much room for improvement, but Tomtom Rider is another option to go with.

Just be cheap like me and buy a bag that attaches to the triple tree and stick your gps in there. I don't use my GPS on my bike other than to chart top speed and speedo error so I guess it works better for me than what others would use it for. But thats how I do it. A triple tree bag and my garmin nuvi 350 that I normally use in my car.

I like this mount because I also have a bag that is over my steering stem.

Has anyone used a cheap gps like this http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=0665000FS10093358&logon=&langid=EN on a bike and if so how do they hold up. The Zumo is nice but the cheapest I've found is $800. Is the 550,450 that much better?

This is the one I recommend. The Garmin 496 will give you current weather conditions and forecasts, wind direction and strength, thunderstorm and lightening activity, XM radio, tells you if you are going to run into a mountain, gives you the best time of the day to hunt and fish, gives you height of ocean waves, temperature of the water, ocean currents, tells you your altitude, if you are about to run into a mountain it will tell you to "pull up", reminds you of people's birthdays, when you had your last oil change, when the next full moon will occur, how fast your airspeed is, turn and bank indicator, it lists every marina, Denny's and airport in North America, and last but not least... tells you what street you are on. This week only I am selling the Flyboy mounting kit for only $299 if anyone is interested-- It has a 60 guarantee or one fifth of your money back. Act today as there aren't many left--

Shown is the Garmin 296. I have since upgraded to the 496 which looks the same.
