swingarm lenght & dyno HP

I installed a 6" over McIntosh arm on my 06 ZX-14 last month. The std RWHP on the bike was 201.5 before the new swingarm and it dropped 8 RWHP after the new arm was installed. Same dyno 1 week between runs. MR9 used on both dyno sessions with no difference in A/F ratios. No problems in engine that I can see. Anyone else seen anything like this?? I can't see the extra chain eating this much HP.

Tire pressure, baromatric pressure, ambient temps, and dynometer setup... scaling etc..
Maybe 1-2 hp difference with longer chain at most.

are all sprokets and chain new?
new chains on old sprokets can eat a few HP! don't mesh properly
chain tension ok.
was the operator dragging the brake.. LOL
No kidding I seen a big foot operator do this before! LOL

maybe you are spinning the tire with the longer swingarm, does everything line up ok?

Sounds like you are losing traction at the rear wheel, which tends to happen when you extend a bike because there is no longer any body weight over the real wheel to keep it from spinning or it could be that the bike is tied down too tight or too loose.

I think that is about right, Ryan has told me that he has to really wrench the bike down for stretched bikes, also, if you switched to a Shinko rear the weight of the tire as well as the soft compound will rob you on the dyno. Your stretch is good, these numbers are just that, as long as your bike is running the way it should be you will see a huge difference in your ET. It sure doesn't hurt to check everything over just in case.

Cant make a judgment based on the performance difference because engine modifications were made in early February and then dyno tested with the stock arm. After this was complete the swingarm came in and was installed. It was to cold and snowing for any street or track testing here in the midwest with the new engine so the shop didn't get to test. We took the bike back to the dyno when I picked it up (with the longer arm installed) and thats when the difference showed up. There was no problem with wheel slippage. I think I know what happened now. When I went to pick it up it had MR9 in the tank which we did the 2nd dyno test with. I suspect now it had been in the tank for at least 2 weeks & maybee longer from the earlier testing. The bike ran fine but just didn't pull the earlier numbers. This fuel deteriorates rapidly and loses its edge. There doesn't appear to be any problem with the fuel pump caused by leaving the MR9 in the bike and I put a full tank of pump gas in the bike after leaving to bring the bike home. I got a fresh can of MR9 yesterday and will hopefully be able to take it to the drag strip soon for the real test.

well i just went to the track last night, i put a BMC race filter, 6" Extension, Dyno Map since i last raced it. Had really high expectations!! i had no freaking traction!! Started with 28lbs then 25 then 20 then 15 Nothing worked cant believe i ran faster with a stock filter and a altered box map. i realize the diablo tire isnt a shinko but they wouldn't put my bike on the dyno with the shinko so i was forced to buy the other. I am freaking out now with what to do, i know i will buy a different tire and that will help but my MPH was down so much i think the dyno map may suck also. i realize all this doesn't apply to this thread but i think i had to vent.

hope you have better luck with your test at the track

they said it was too soft and would shred on the dyno, however i have since worked out the traction problems and my et is better. I still seem to be short on power even with MR9 compared to others on this forum, guess i need to ship my bike to Rickey Gadson or something. Unless smokin or dubious is going to call me and share some tips

Shinko too soft for a dyno? I'd have to call BS on those guys. What the hell do they think the majority of dragracers are running at the strip?

That's BS. They can just run higher air pressure than you would at the track. I took mine to the dyno with an u-soft and they just put 28 lbs in it. It was fine. Not the best tire for dyno numbers because they're heavy.

When you go to the dyno, you should only worry about improving on the base numbers. If you leave with more hp, that's what you came for. Dyno numbers mean nothing. Every dyno is different and can be manipulated to say whatever the tuner wants. I'm just going to get a Wideband and tune it myself at the track. More accurate.
