CAM CHAIN TENSIONER
I WAS WONDERING IF A 2008 ZX14 CAM CHAIN TENSIONER WOULD WORK ON AN 06-07 MODEL ZX14, I HEARD THAT THE 08 TENSIONER IS REVISED FOR THE NEW BIKES.

I have been using them, I use to mod the 12 adj, but they got hard to get once it got out that they worked on the 14s, The 08 tensioner are bolt on's, They still don't work as well as the modified units, bill.....

What's the part number for the 08 tensioner?
Does anyone care to share the procedure for the swap? Simple bolt-in?

A Good guy on here, billieason along with Carpenter told me that the ZX-12 tensioner fits, but its a little shorter,. All they do is remove.120 thousanths from the face of the 12 tensioner where it bolts to the head, this allows it to be the same lenght as the 14's & not be shorter on total lenght.

Hey 87, The old p# was 12048-0034 for the 06-07. The update p# 12048-0048 is for the 08. it is a direct bolt on. Price retail is $79.68. Its worth it' even more so with a motor that has some work done and rev's a little quicker. bill....

The manual is nice IF you know how to keep it adjusted, if not engine damage can occur.
The rest of us need the " set it and forget it" of OEM.

After the 14 warms up to 2-3 bars and sits for say about 10 minutes and restarts I can hear the tensioner take up the chain slack but sometimes for about 10 seconds can still hear a knock. It doesn't happen all the time though, could it be piston skirt slap or just the nature of this type of tensioner? 14,300 miles. Noise is coming from the right side of engine same place as the camchain.

Thats the same noise thats been hunting me.
Anyone know what changes were made with the 08 tensioner to eliminate this noise.
I assume this thing adjust itself once oil pressure builds, Am I correct?
Is the long term effect of this, these bikes needing new cam chains.

Got the knock again after 20 min stop 3 bars at stop. Shut the engine off and restarted, knock cleared instantly. Probably have a sticking tensioner that reset after releasing the oil pressure. Anyone else notice this?

There should be a recall on this or Kawasaki needs to put out some info on how to correct it to prevent damage.

Alright fellas, I'm wondering if thats what I'm feeling in my footpegs. Since new, I've always had a odd knocking going on that is mostly felt in my left footpeg, only notice it when I'm riding. Similar to if something was loose in my rear suspension and knocking every time I hit a bump, but it seems to have no correlation to any movements of the suspension, rpm, or speed.
I've adjusted my chain 3 times now, and the last time I even overtightened it to make sure. Knocking still there. Think it could be the tensioner?

No luck, tried that. Even with the chain TIGHT it made the exact same knocking sounds. I'm going to lower it on my Muzzy lowering links and see if that helps, at least it should completely rule out the chain as the cause because it will raise the rear sprocket and pull the chain off the plastic swingarm guard (hopefully at least).

I'm running on the middle setting with a Muzzy link since 2000 miles. Could it be the shock fully extending? First noticed it on the Salt Flats where the off track road was really bumpy. Caliper rattle could be another cause, very common with automobiles.
