170 HP - 2008 ZX10

lookout, the 999 CC motor is str0nger than ANYTHING AROUND according to MCN.

slightly happy dyno and a BS magazine combined produces such numbers. dyno charts included in their article.

All cool, except for the TQ numbers, which still gives the 14 the edge (much fatter TQ curve) on the strip -- IMO...
So -- what's with that big dip at 2500? Another sad case of fly-choked intakes again?

DUBIOUS - your 156 HP is realistic. The R1 is 151. Most litre bikes are in this range.

but that stock 170 HP reading is total bullchit LMFAO that magazine is silly

and HP doesn't matter on the track? (why many racers can get better lap times on a 600 than their litre bike on the same track) near as much as braking and handling which the ZX10 has always lacked. Maybe '08 will be different for Kawasaki, I hope so.

I'm all for the ZX10 or Honda this year.

thus thread isn't about me suspecting Honda will win the overall shootouts for stock litre bikes this year though, this thread is about the JOKE that MCN online mag says the ZX10 is 170 HP out the box LMFAO!

and again, I'm not brand loyal. I've had all kinds of bikes and my favorite was the ZX9R but I suspect the Honda will perform so much better at braking and corner speed that the extra couple of ponies the ZX10 may have won't even factor.

What i would really like to know is what MCN dyno said about the 07 zx10 Vs the 08 zx10 ... that would tell the real story ....If the 07 ( pick a number) dyno 164 hp and the 08 zx10 made 170 hp that's a good jump in power over the older model ..

The 2005 zx10r they claimed 175 PS at 11,700, 184PS with ram air
2005 Peak torque was claimed 115 N-m at 9500 RPM
Peak range 9500 to 11,700 rpm

Kawi 2007 they claimed 175 PS , 184 PS with ram air
Peak torque was claimed 114.7 @ 9500 RPM
Peak range 9500 to 11,700 rpm

Kawi 2008 is claiming 188 PS at 12,500, and 200 PS with ram air...
Peak torque is claimed 113 N-m at 8700 RPM
peak power range 8700 to 12,500 RPM

So they are saying it has picked up 13 crank HP, and 16 Crank HP with ram air at 1000 rpm higher,
meanwhile maintaining torque at 1000 rpm lower...
so likely 10 RWHP and a power curve 4000 rpm wide vs 2000 rpm wide...

That is a very fat increase if you look at the curve, and the peak!

Nasty little beast!

Maybe... might be...

same rated ram air HP as the zx14!
torque obviously is down 25% , but so is the mass compared to a 14.

your work email has me locked out again...
I sent a respnse to both though.
I tried phoning you, but your not at work.

Phone me at work, my cell is dead,

Not many machines have a torque curve as fat and taller than the HP curve...

Diesels, and mongo stroke/bore ratio gas engines, with short duration cams look like that...

The RPM range, and the magnitude of the #'s , besides the fact you own the nicest Rocket around... were also dead give aways! LOL
