Oil Drain Plug
Installed Muzzys lowering links, 2nd hole, and lowered front 1" at the clamps. Also have RT ext. at 7+. Has anyone had any problems with plug clearance at the track or street with these mods? Thanks.

lots of problems. do a search on this forum. some people had the drain plug welded to the side.

I have my 07-14 lowered and strapped, I would scrape the oil plug coming out of my driveway which is not that steep. all I did was grind the oil plug and shield in front of the plug with a grinder while the plug was still on the bike, be very careful and grind a little at a time. put the bike on a rear stand and grind evenly , I took a lot of material off of mine and it worked great and I can still get a socket on the oil plug .

I hope this helps .I know relocating the oil plug is a much better thing to do but this way is a lot easier. I went to my local drag strip and lifted my front end up pretty high and came down hard and it did not scrape at all, that was with it strapped in the front and in the middle hole in the rear lowering link, stock wheelbase.

I shredded mine loading on the trailer. My partner came out of a wheelie and destroyed his at the drags on the first run. We both had a local fella relocate it to the side of the pan. Neither have had issues since. There are pics around here if you can find the right thread. Both of ours were moved to the kickstand side.

If you are lowered and on the street, find a good welder to take care of you. Doesnt take but an hour to get the pan off, and i only paid $80 for my welder to take off about 1/4" off the bottom and relocate the plug to the side.
Looking back, put the plug on the rear !
I had to learn all this the hard way, and was almost a very very bad situation.

I believe that I may shave the bolt down leaving just the thin shoulder area and then drill the center and tap the bolt for a hex head plug and weld the plug in place. Can't get much more clearance than that for a Qwick & inexpensive fix. Has anyone thought of this or tried anything similar?

Ya I proposed that awhile back but the 'weld in a new one on the side' crew overruled it lol.\
Why spend $$$ when I can do it myself, for cheap? I'll be doing it sometime next year, not riding it right now, being winter in Washington. And I have a rule against working on my bikes when Im not riding them. It's called procrastination!

I like the $$$ saving idea myself. Especially since the wife has her own 14, so that makes twice the work & double the money when it comes to mods on my bike.

Glad we could help Bryan. First one done should post up some pics. I'll try to start working on it after New Years. I picked up a spare drain plug from the dealership last week so that my bike won't be down while I'm doing the work.

Never mind what? I don't own the local weld shop... I just have access to it. And the owner is a family man, who believes in closing down shop for the Holidays. Besides, this is the first holiday season that I've had off in 16 years. So, I'm going to spend it "with" my family. Sorry.

qwick thats a pretty good idea. I HAD to have the bottom replaced anyways, b/c i pushed the plug through it.....
And whoever said that it being on the side is the optimal spot needs to be slapped, b/c apparently the dont take left hand turns.
Where do you live Steve, i think i make use of the welder ?

not sure who thats directed at, but mine is on the left. If you're worried about dragging the drainplug in a lefthand turn, maybe you're too low for the streets? There's only one lefthand turn at my track, and its to get onto the return road.
Actually my headers will be scrapping way before the new drainplug.
You know, you should do a little more homework before you start talking trash.

It wasnt directed towards anyone in particular.
If you have a purpose built drag bike, then it really doesnt matter, but for the street having it on the left is a bad idea. I am bigger guy so i can contribute some of that the the plug scraping on hard left handers. BUUUUT smaller friend road, and was having the same issues. SO the bike is currently back up to stock height, and just FYI i wasnt very low, just 1.5" in the rear and 1" in the front. Hundreds of people do that on the streets everyday.
If you are on the street put it in the back, so you dont have to worry about it ever again.
LOL ANd homework is there to do ?! I did it, but really should have listented to my gut and the few select people telling to put it in the rear, instead of the people with drag bikes saying to put it on the side.

Yes, I moved the plug to the leftside and it has scraped. That was while i was lowered, but like i said, the bike is now back up to stock height.
IMO Put the plug in the back if you relocate.
