MR9 offers a bit more hp over U4..(2-3 hp?)
the new U4.1 needed redesign from the manufacturer and was recalled for a while; was leaning out too engines too much as I recall...now it seems to be back
on the market...make sure you don't buy from the first batches of U4.1 sold....
the new U4.1 has the advantage of not needing re-mapping .. just pour and away you go...some guys on forums think it is junk however....I don't care for it myself...
MR9 is more corrosive I think but better power... drain out either after you are done racing....
there is MR10 available as well.. even better than MR9... costs more I am sure....
good old U4 is probably safest bet .. track proven and best bang for the buck if expense is an issue...
can call any VP fuel dealer and ask for technical assistance on any question you may have...
I plan to go with MR10 next summer myself...remapping will be no problem as I have O2 sensor , Dynojet power commander USBIII and data logger to monitor and adjust air / fuel ratio as needed....

U4
Used in stock and modified 4-stroke applications, as well as stock 2-strokes. Makes up to 6% more power than pump gas and any basic nonoxygenated racing fuel. Passes fuel rules for AMA amateur racing, and is also perfect for club level racing, CCS, WERA and AFM.
Color: Clear
Oxygenated: Yes
Motor Octane: 92
Specific Gravity: .718 at 60° F
U4e
Developed for those states that restrict the use of MTBE in fuels. Will work well in the same applications as U4, with comparable power increases.
Color: Pink
Oxygenated: Yes
Motor Octane: 93
Specific Gravity: .718 at 60° F
NEW! U4.2
The latest generation of our U4 based fuels, this fuel is a direct pour-in replacement for U4 with little to no jetting changes required - +2 main jets and +2 pilot jets at the most. Makes power equivalent to U4 with no sticky residue and a less pungent odor. U4.2 passes AMA amateur fuel rules and is perfect for club level racing, CCS, WERA and AFM. U4.2 makes up to 6% more power than pump gas.
Color: Blue
Oxygenated: Yes
Motor Octane: 102
Specific Gravity: .784 at 60° F
MR9
Designed for 4-stroke applications that can tolerate lower actane values. Makes up to 8% more power than pump gas and up to 2% more power than MRX01. Used by every champion in AMA Superbike Pro classes in 2004 and 2005, as well as the Supermoto, Supermoto Lite and Supermoto Unlimited championships in 2005. Although currently not legal in AMA Pro Racing, MR9 passes fuel rules for AMA amateur racing as well as club level racing, CCS, WERA and AFM.
Color: Clear
Oxygenated: Yes
Motor Octane: 87
Specific Gravity: .718 at 60° F
The new u4.2 sucks !!!...The origional u4 is the best compared to the new u4.2 and u4e...I know a couple guys using the u4e and they get power from it...The u4e does not spoil like the u4 and mr9...Once you know how to care for the mr9 there is no better...Forget the mr10...Not worth it @ $170 for a 5 gallon can!!!
I use the mr9, as it gives me awesome mph for my 12...

I get regular proven U4 for about $70.00 for 5 Gallons..have not priced MR9 but will before next season...5 gallons will likely last me the whole summer..thats why I plan for MR10..
I skip the really hot track weekends during summer...I hate being out there when it is 100 degrees or worse at the line waiting my turn...I go when I want...for fun not for season points myself...
I sure do not see anything wrong with MR9.. but people are not getting all the advertised % increases on these fuels from VP .. still much better than pump gas...
I need a siphon of sorts to improve my draining process....tasting u4 will not kill ya but I will see if I can come up with a better plan .. shouldn't be too hard...main thing is that a guy gets the right mapping to get the best out of it in my opinion...
Have fun!!

Salsa, the mr9 or u4 will not last all summer!!!...It gets stale...
mr9 is $120 a can...You would be better off with the u4e and when you remove whats left from the bike dont put it back into the VP can...

CR do you drain the MR9 after each weekend of racing?
And do you flush your fuel system with a pump gas afterwards?

I guess I have to disagree CrotchRocket....I keep it in the metal blue can it comes in....always make sure the cap is screwed on nice and tight.. no air exchange...the lid was popping clear to the roof of the garage whenever I took it off...the can from last year that I had left over u4 from is like you say.. stale..no life...
but that was from last years can of U4...this years can of U4 I bought in April or May 2007 is still good if you ask me...the main thing is to not let air in and out...
What do you base it is stale on? if it is.... it does not perform any different at the strip from 4 months ago ...Thats what I also base my statement on...I can see maybe not putting it back in the can; still a bit questionable as to it being bad...it would depend how long it sits in the tank after racing I would believe...I don't usually have more than a quart or so in there..
I keep close track of quantities I put in for weight savings...I drain to avoid my lines and system from the harm that can be done.. not to save much fuel...
if MR9 is $120.00 a can then I have no issues paying $170.00 for MR10 next summer...I want to see what I can do with it...am interested to see what it actually does...I don't believe everything advertised...not 10 % increase anyways... but anything close will be good enough...
MR10 is the best available as far as I know anyways...people buy different fuels for their own reasons...Info on these is not hard to get...
Thanks.

I always drain out the oxygenated fuel as much as I can then run the bike until it is dry....I take a quart with me out for a few local miles or less distance many times and after she runs out put pump gas to make sure she is clean from race fuel...
I do this to get out pump gas for race fuel for the track and also to get race fuel out and pump gas back in for my garage or migrating back to local driving.. only reason I siphon is to get levels as low as possible...then the run to allow to dry is very short....
max I have allowed race gas in my tank is 4 days.. and I don't usually even wait that long.. just to stay on the safe side ... no worries.. just a sound system of operation...
as per VP :
"To maintain the original properties and comply with Health and Safety regulations, fuels should be handled and stored in a cool place and
always maintained in tightly sealed drums. Do not expose the fuel to direct sunlight as the ultraviolet rays will oxidize the lead. "
I will add: That one should never use plastic containers for storage of u4 or mr9 ect...
the idea is to preserve as long as possible...4 months seems the max to me at this point with due care in my experience with it anyways...
plastic containers are not good at all for maintaining original properties....
