The extra weight looks to be in the exhaust...We all know how to take care of that problem.. Port work to the head and better injectors , that will be a big plus ..Sounds like they did a little remapping also .( flys and timing )..More low end, more mid range and more top end power.........Look at the hole picture here guys > They made an allready great bike even better...Sounds to me that they made the hole power curve better and stronger and as us drag racers know more power though the curve will drop ETs and a smoother power curve make us faster.....I'll bet the new zx14 will be a tenth+ quicker than the old zx14 and that saying alot on allready rocket of a bike ... And this should be the icing on the cake > if they ported the head or changed port shape for more power as well as the injectors, they did it because of a loss in power because of new the exhaust ( Cats)... So gents with a good aftermark pipe the new zx14 should respond just as it did in the 06 But even better ..Done deal ....................................................................................................
As far as the colors make mine a silver one ... That red and black just plan sucks...The blue should be a good seller ..........

What cooling and oil consumption problem ?? mine never ran hot or ever used a drop of oil ....600+ passes and uncounted top end runs and not a drop or over 3 bars on the temp gauge ...You must be talking about the 99 to 07 Busa that over heated...

Yea, I agree with Smokin. All the talk about weight savings and it's heavier. Has to be the extra catalytic converters etc. in the exhaust. Even more reason to get rid of the "rocket launchers".

+1
kudo's to KHI for their improvements to the 250, that new bike is so awesome. As far as the rest, I just don't see anything thrilling over '07.
I was expecting more from the ZX14 considering the hype. Like significantly less weight, better aero's, better handling/suspension, colors, etc etc Adding a few HP (yawn) just isn't enought to get me to go trade mine this year. They didn't even improve the seat :P

I ran the bike damn near back to back this weekend and no problems either. As for the color, I kind of like that damn paint scheme. Now I wouldn't buy that shit but if it was green and black or something, maybe!

Well according to the long term test and many owners there was a cooling issue especially in the desert southwest
where I live. The test also had an engine failure due to consumption. If I recall correctly these ZX14 may have been preproduction machines. I plan on purchasing either the 14 or the hayabusa soon for a cross country six month journey.
I hope someone will post the other colours soon,

Well, I guess I will hang on to my '06 then. Some of you like the custom paint. Lets just say beauty is in the eye of the beholder!
As others have stated, the '08 motor may respond even better to after market exhaust systems with the better breathing of the new head. No changes to compression or throttle body size was a surprise. I am guessing that the ECU got a few tweaks to open the flys sooner in the lower gears to give the better low and mid range torque they advertise for '08. Since peak torque is the same, I am guessing it is mostly the ECU. The head and exhaust changes probably helped as well, but since peak torque is the same, again the ECU is probably the biggest change.
No variable valve timing like the Concours. That would have been nice to see.
Wonder if the ECU will work on the older machines?
Be interesting to see some dyno runs with the new bike.

i would consider my 14 long term tested and i have not had any problems with oil consumption or overheating. as far as cross country goes i went aprox. 750 miles in two days a couple of weekends ago and was reasonably comfy without risers, corbin or throttle-meister. this years "new" colours are last years non-u.s. except for the special ed so there are plenty of pics. glad i got a red '06. lovin the new klx, ninja 250 and zx-10! kawasaki is after blood

Well countersteer it's a little early to tell how much power it has over the 06 zx14 ...RG and Brock said it had more power everywhere ....Before you jump the gun lets wait to see it on a dyno and the track .... You never know you maybe suprized .....

thats what im hopin for, but is a few overall hp worth selling mine for? to me, this looks like what happened to the zx12, "refined" but still very much the same. i was really anticipating a dramatic improvement, but youre right only time will tell.
things i would like to see:
no secondary butterflies to remove
lower gearing
plastic guard infront of headers, below radiator to clean up the look
race cut front fender like lyles zx10 fender conversion
smoothed foreman grills of course
oem stainless brake/clutch lines since they offer nice calipers and "petal" rotors
easier access to the battery
and maybe a multi-map selector but thats a bit excessive
i can see all this being done for basically the same msrp.

Was this hype from anywhere other than ourselves talking up the mods that were coming on the 08? Wishful thinking sort of thing? Or was Kawasaki spreading hype of their own?

I think im correct in saying our 14 have 43mm throtlebodies. I dont see why kaw wont deliver a knockout blow. They bike im sure is excellent. I know i love mine. They need to raise the bar even higher. I guess sales arent a bike issue. I know i see very few 14 around and at events. Anyway i like the limited paint scheme. I let a friend ride my bike while i rode his for about 50 miles. He has a 2000 gsx 750. I dont see how anyone of size could ride these liter bikes. I could hardly move once we stopped. My friend loved the 14. That was two days ago. Hes talking about selling his bike to get one now. They would have to make major changes to get the busa in the class with the 14. Im not just talking about power. I will say the bike is ahead of the curve when it comes to a all around bike. I still say kaw just playing a game. They could do so much more if they wanted. It would be better to wait 4 or 5 more yrs to see what the companies come up with.
