setup for extensions
Ok, I think I'm ready to put some extensions on my 14. What length are you guys running? I can get the 4" to 9" extensions, but don't know how far back to set the wheel. On my friends R1, we set it back an extra 8 inches, but the 14 has a longer wheelbase from the factory than the R1. Also, can I drop it down 3 inches when its stretched for the track without it bottoming out? I know on my friends R1, his rear spring got softer when we stretched it. I would appreciate any help. I just don't want any surprises when I go to do this. Also, I thought about going bigger on the rear sprocket too. I'm runnig a 16t on the front right now. I thought about going to a 43 or 44 tooth in the rear. All of this will be for the track, I will put it back to stock length when on the street. I'm going to get master links for the stock chain and the chain I use for the extensions (2 separate chains, one for street one for track).

I recently had mine added and i have not had a chance to make it to the strip. I am geared 16/43. I am about 7 inches now but on my 12 i am about 6. I would pronanly start anywhere from 4-6. If you are going to be a straight track guy you make want to start at 6. I have had a little problem and have seen many other guys have a lot of problem with traction for hole shots in the street with excessively long arms

Ok, thanks guys. I'll get the 9 inch extensions and set it back 5 or 6. Wil the 3 inch drop be ok though or will I be safer at the middle hole?

if you weigh around 200, 5 inches will still wheelie when launching hard, you will be adding links. If your a fly weight like Smokin, you will be less wheelie prone. btw Smokin, dont tell us you weigh 160, hehehe. weeeeeee

I weigh 200 lbs. How far do I need to go back? Remember this setup is for the track only. I will raise it back up and take out the extensions for street riding.

I don't think weight has much to do with it .... I have wheelied at 68 inches but my bike seems to ET better at 62 inches than 68 ..... Oh thats at 150 pounds ....lol..

This might be a dumb question but, where are you guys measuring from to get 62, or 64 inches? I am extended about 5 inches and have been wondering the whole length.

I was at 62.5 inches and wheelies were not a problem as long as you know how to launch, it takes practice. I wheelied a zx 12 that was 8 over saturday so anything can be wheelied. My best 60 ft at 62.5 was 1.44. you go back much farther then that and unless you are on a really well preped track you will have traction issues.

Axle to axle gives you the length of wheelbase.

Nelson is correct measure it axle to axlt, what I do is have someone hold the bike up straight make a chalk line on the pavement where the axle is and then measure the distance between the chalk lines I am 280 pounds at 64 inches and NEVER have a wheelie problem or traction problems I think 63-64 is perfect, I think 62 is a little short (not everyone can ride like smokin)
