First Extended Ride no FLies

Hi Guys,,,, well you all were right... its a gorgeous day here in CT so i finally got a chance to go out for a extended ride after my mods (Fly removal..PC & Brocks Smeg)... all i can say is WOW... the power in the lower rpm range is much greater than before...smooth too... the front end really wants to come up in 1st gear now with any kind of throttle input.... it really is fun to ride around town now with all this low end torque... and i LOVE the sound of the SMEG... and as far as the power up top...... Holy Chit... the speedo sweeps up the dial faster than the tach it seems.. wow this is really a fun bike to ride ..... cant wait to get on some open roads & really pull the trigger....ones things for sure.... you need lots of open space

glad to hear u like it. by the way, where did u get your map and how does it run in in low rpm in first gear taking off? does it feel like it is running rich? what octane gas do u use?
i just remapped mine in local shop,( brocks map was too rich in midrange) now i am strong midrange and kind of spotty in take off in low rpm. i use 87 octane.
i have the same mods as yours.

I got the same spotty low rpm thing.
Save the 120+ stuff for a track. I do track days now.
Its SSOOOOO easy to get over a buck fifty its silly.
Kinda tough on roads with pets and cages all over. You have the wildlife issue in Ct. too. Nothing like hitting a racoon at 80, a bunny at god knows how fast and a grouse at 60 to chill me out. That and acouple triple digit tickets too.(Beat both in court, but still wonder why I wasnt hauled off and bike impounded. Will have to check our laws in Wa.)

Oh yea, nice bike and congrats on your mods.

Hey Shawnski... talked to the Brocks guys about the type of riding i do & they suggested i go with their 'no flys' street map & use 89 octane...thats what the pc came loaded with ...so thats all ive tried for now... 1st gear take off seems ok to me... but thats on the street.... & mid range also seem fine.... but i have nothing to compare it to....i havent gone for that many rides since my mods...but ill keep ya posted.. I hear what your saying Old guy....about the dangers on the street...ive seen a few things in my 35 plus years riding... its just near impossible to keep it within the local speed limits.. i think about that stuff you mentioned...but i dont want to spook myself out either....seems this bike is good at multiple tasks though... sports tourer, everyday bike, or at the strip

Morning gentleman and ladies if any.I'm a complete nubie on this site.Just bought my zx14 and am trying to get educated on some of the different upgrades. What is this "fly removal" u speak of?I know what PC is .Has anyone heard of TRE on Ivans Perfmance parts?Ya or Na if u have.It talks about the throttle plate removal.Sounds technical and difficult.I'm looking for more bolt on/simple add on's.I'm semi mechanicaly inclined. Thanks for the help.

Welcome to the board, kojack. Ivans TRE tricks the bike into thinking it's in a higher gear than it is which opens the secondary throttle plates. They are plates above the throttle-cable-controlled butterflies designed to limit power in lower gears @ <5000RPM.

Fly removal:
- Super easy to do (search for the procedure).
- Free.
- Reversible, though I've never heard of anyone going back.
- Your gear indicator behaves normally

TRE:
- Super easy to do
- Costs $
- Reversible, obviously
- Gear indicator is stuck on 6 (I think it's 6 anyway).

Also, Brock Davidson did testing on the Busa years ago with respect to TRE's. In every case, while the very, very lowend picked up as advertised, the bikes went slower in the quarter mile with the TRE. There are reasons the engineers have different maps in the ECU for different gears and they're not all to make the bike slower!

Here's the link to an article by Brock:

You won't find many Ivan fans on this board.
