sport rider....new busa
sport rider just did a big magazine all page busa ad for suzuki. it must have cost suzuki alot.they mentioned the zx 1400 a few times as if it was some old worn out washing machine. saying that kawasaki had better watch out and how great the new busa is. sport rider is in the pocket of suzuki and that just lost them a customer. they never did that for kawasaki when the zx 1400 came out. money talks..........

I know what magazine I am not going to subscribe to. Is there a way you can post a link to the article for us to read? I am curious to see what proof Sports Rider has for these claims.

After reading that rag of a mag, What I can't believe is that Suzuki sold 10,000 Busa's here in the US last year, more than twice the ZX-14 sold here. Is the American sportbike consumer that stupid or is it a case of overpopulation of squids and posers?

People go with what they know. Trying new things is just too much for them, despite the potential benefits.

Then Kawi should have ponied up the dough and did likewise. There was nothing stopping them. I'm sure Sport Rider or any other mag would have jumped at the chance.
That "extra" is an avertorial paid for by Suzuki. They are even listed in the credits. Yes, mags are in business to make $$. Why is that so shocking?
Like it or not Suzuki has a very well known brand with the Busa. It's all marketing. The after market for the Busa is huge. This is a big reason it will be very difficult to dethrone. It's popular because it's popular. Sad but true.

You make a good point, but I always thought magazines like Sports Rider and Motorcyclist was supposed to be impartial aside from the places for advertisement? One would hope if they made such huge claims that they would first see how the bike performed first. That's all I'm saying.

Magazines are NOT impartial, they are a business, They have to turn a profit. Money speaks volumes. Kawi doesn't give a shit if they sell 1/2 or twice as many bikes as Suz...it's probably insignificant to them. I think they were all about building the best possible machine they could in class -- and they did just that. The ZX14 set a new standard in hyperbikes, one that took Suzuki 2 years to come to, if it can even be compared to the ZX14. For the last 2 model years, Kawi had them beat in every area of that bike -- and they knew it. I'll reserve my right to judge until I see the new Busa, but so far, from what I see about that ugly Tony-the-Tiger back end, I'm not impressed by the look of it. The Busa always had shit brakes and crappy handling when compared to to many other big bore bikes, much less the ZX14. Ya, it'll probably do close to 200 out of the box with a Speedo healer because of the aero's, but will it brake and handle? That remains yet to be seen. Suzuki has had that Busa for a thousand years and has collected a large dedicated group of followers, more than the ZX12r ever had. Don't expect the ZX14 to move 'em all away in 2 years. It's probably not worth the $$$ it would cost Kawi to sway even a small % away from the Busa, IMO.

The more busa's sold the better.
I like handing out spankings! LOL
I will continue to dump money into it to keep it on top...
Cheaper than buying a new one, then exhaust and all the other typical mods any bike with cats requires...
I have enough into the 14 that it would have to be a 14 stuffed in a zx10 chasis or something world renown giant leap in performance for me to turn my back on her now...
I still like the style of the kawi's better too.
If its doesn't appeal to ya, how can you be proud...?
If your girl treats ya great, but is ugly as sin... how long would the love last?

It's just magazine hype. I'm sure 'Busa owners felt the same when the 14 was launched. Just extract the hard facts, stroker engine, better brakes etc and remember that if Suzuki and Kawasaki are playing power-leapfrog then we will benefit as customers. Also bear in mind that the new model launches are in different years and they are not likely to launch a worse bike are they ?
Having read the article in the MCN (UK) last week we concluded that the difference in the 2008 'Busa and the 14 in performance terms will probably be quite small and most likely down to how the bike is ridden (rider ability) and what modifications each owner does. I've owned examples of both makes and they are all great bikes.

Kawasaki needs to lean how to market their performance better. Same exact issue between GM and Ford. Although the TransAm/Camero made more hp and had better
0-60mph and 1/4 mi times, GM couldn't market to save their life and lost the market to the new Mustang. There wasn't a Mustang alive that would com eclose to running with my 2000 Firehawk, nevertheless, GM lost the battle. I hope Kawsaki gets smart and leans how to market their performance, because they have a better product and need to get some $$$ in the game to promote the ZX-14. That will also spur a surge in aftermarket demand and supply.

The GM products were so overpriced compared to the Mustang, for only a slight performance lead. If the '08 Camaro is the same (high), it'll flop too and the Mustang will stomp all over it in sales.
I agree Kawi can't market. Suzuki has built a brand loyalty with the old 'busa that can be descibed as a cult following. Kawi has never came close.

We all talk $$$$ for HP here. GM's smoke the Mustang for a few $$$ more. And overpriced, the Saleen runs a shitload more than my Firehawk and couldn't even come close to running with it. But lest I digress, that is for another forum. You are right though, Suzuki has the throng of followers, just as Ford has with the loyalty to the Mustang, and it is a tough nut to crack. Kawasaki needs to learn how to market the "better" product and the first step would be aftermarket support.
