I/4 Mile Gearing

I was talking to a fellow '14 owner tonight at bike night. I am posting the following question on his behalf as he does not have access to a computer..........I think he spent all his money on his '14 as it is really done up!
He drag races his bike, all the goodies, custom new extended braced swing arm, air shifter, 2 stage clutch, nitrous, basically all the goodies.

He is running 17-46 gearing at the moment. He is getting into sixth in the 1/4 mile. His speedo is showing 295 to 298 kph at the lights (156 mph actual) His speedo is way off because of his gearing. His uncorrected times are around 9.2's at about 3000 feet elevation. Nitrous is a 50 shot I think.

His question is if he boosts his power a little more, even though his actual speed is in the mid 150's, because his speedo is showing almost 300 kph (186 mph, will he potentially hit the speed limiter, even though his actual speed is only in the mid 150's?

Based on what I've read here, my guess is he probably will.

I'm not a drag racer myself, but my thinking is if he is into 6th in the quarter he is probably running too low of gearing or shifting too early................2 extra shifts he probably does not have to make.

So would his solution be a speedo healer?

I'll try and get a picture of his bike as it is very nicely set up.

Same stuff my bike will have next week or so when everything gets here Mark.
Except the clutch.
I am using heavy springs as I want to ride on the street still.

If he installs a speedo healer he will not have to worry about the limiter.

From what I have read, and what makes sense to me...............

The extra shift won't matter unless he is shifting just before the traps.
The air shifter shifts so fast that ideally gearing would be hitting redline top gear right after the trap.

I'd really like to look at the bike so i have an idea how he layed everything out under the seat, and any install issues he had.
you have his number? PM me?

17/46= 2.705 his combo should be fine....
16/41= 2.562 lots of people running this combo
17/41= 2.411 stock
16/42= 2.625 my partner loves this setup, I had the same before I stretched my swingarm.
17/42= 2.47 my current set up, changing to 17/45 (2.647) today.

I don't think he's geared too low for the quarter, especially at 3000ft..... As long as he's continually pulling thru the traps. I'd get a speedohealer for sure.

How much does he weigh?
