Hello from Port Angeles, WA, USA
Hello all,
Just wanted to introduce myself and start to get involved in the discussions here. I came upon this forum about a week ago and the level of experience and expertise here is very impressive. On with the introduction.
Like some other people here the first moment i knew i had to have a motorbike was when I saw Top Gun for the first time. I was probably about 13 at the time and instantly fell in love with that awesome red and black ninja. About 7 years later the engine of the ford pickup i had at the time grenaded on the way back to my parents house from college for Christmas Break. In January, in washington State, i was car shopping and saw the same Red and Black Ninja (of course it wasn't the actual same one) with a For Sale sign sitting in the parking lot of a bike shop in Puyallup. It was in perfect condition with 2,000 miles on the odometer (even though it was 12 years old at that point) and he wanted $3,000 for it i bought it that day for $2,500 cash. Now all i had to do was learn how to ride, which was a slightly painful experience for both of us. Within 2 months i had laid it down doing about 70 mph (gravel in the corner, going too fast for my skill level, terrible line through the corner). The bike was not so perfect anymore and i was not so confident (cocky) about my ability anymore. Since then i have about 70,000 road miles on motorcycles, all of them with the rubber side down. My confidence (?cockiness?) is back and one day i am going to restore that first bike to it's former glory, if i ever stop working 70+ hours a week. It has about 50,000 miles now and the engine is still strong.
I never thought i would be as excited about getting another bike as i was about that GPZ900, until i test rode my ZX14. It is the best looking, best handling, and most bad ass bike i have ever had the pleasure of riding. I have had it about a month now and have ridden it quite a bit (2,250 miles). I guess if there was one thing i would change about it i would get rid of the ridiculous dumbing down of the throttle response below 5,000 rpm, but after reading a bunch of posts here i know how to do that.
Thanks everyone for all the great info i have already gleaned from your posts.

WARBIRD, stevewfl, Stalwart Thanks for the welcome's. I go through your neck of the woods quite a bit Stalwart. For work i travel between PA, Mt. Vernon, and chehalis sometimes.
The flies out mod is one that i am seriously considering, but being as the fuel injection system is open loop (i think) it seems like the fuel delivery would not be increased to match the airflow gained by losing the secondaries. I don't recall seeing any airflow sensor in the exploded DFI drawings in the shop manual, but i could be wrong. Do you have to do the Flies out and PC3 mods at the same time to reap the benefits?

Port_Angeles_Ninja: Yes you have to in order to fix that super lean condition on WOT at 3500 RPM, though some say no and have had no apparent issues either. I've tried it both ways and see no difference in performnce using my seat-of-the-pants-dyno, but I thought it was better to be safe than sorry. Flies out, this puppy is a beast. I geared it down as well (16/43) and now it's just insane sick on low end pull. I lost top end (now 167) but it was worth it. She pulls nasty at 3K and up, like no Busa I've ever had before. Recently I swapped bikes for the day with a buddy on his 05 Busa. She's completely dead next to my 14.

WAY back, when the 14 was new, maps were hard to find. Now many (most) pipe manufacturers offer maps for their pipes. Additionally, maps are available from some companies when you purchase from them as well as the PC3's manufacturer's web site. You just need one with "flies out" or "secondary butterflies removed" for the exhaust you use, be it stock or modified.

pazx: Hi, you're not kidding about the compliments. I got quite a few with the 85' but now it's like having groupies wherever you go.
FBA, STALWART: Thanks, that makes sense about the lean condition i will order the PCIII today. The 16/43 sounds kinda good too. I don't need all the top speed this bike's got anyway, i ride strictly on the street (so far), and i don't like passing cops at 180 mph. For some reason they don't seem to appreciate it.

Welcome....
Glad you're enjoying your new bike, they are awesome for sure!
I was born in Port Angeles and lived there until I was almost nine, our family moved to Tennessee in '63 where I still live.
I do get back to P.A. from time to time..........it's truly God's country. I miss Hurricane Ridge.

Thanks, Dan
Yeah, it is pretty up here. I just moved here a couple years ago but have always lived in western washington. I have been a few different places around the country and world and have not seen anywhere like it. Although just about anywhere else has better riding weather.

thanks bigdtd, i have heard somewhere that the black ones are fastest, and zx14r191 does that mean mine came from UK? it says GPZ on the key. and i think on the reg? although i only ever looked at the reg once, then stuck it under the seat, will have to look again.
I have been to london a couple of times, or about 16 if you count layovers at Heathrow en route to Shannon as being in London.
