New Tires....any insights are appreciated.
Ive gotten about 6000 miles per set of tires with my 14...Im due for my third set now. Any suggestions that will get about the same mileage yet are maybe a bit stickier? Ive been using the oems and Im wondering if there is anything better with the same wear rate. Thanks for any insights...

Check out our Long Term Test... http://www.bikeland.org/story.php?storyID=32272
We tried (and liked) the Qualifiers... considerably stickier than the OEM shoooz!

I just ordered a set..thanks fish. Ill keep you posted on how they wear as compared to the oems...stickier usually means a shorter life, however after reading up some...dunlop says they wear well,....well see. Thanks again.

Im a big fan of the Dunlops...especially the 208RR and 209's.
However I have heard great things about the Conti SportAttacks so will be putting a set of those on next.

Depends on what you do and how your ride. I take the bike to work everyday and do anything between a 200 - 800K run on the weekend. I do trackdays and the odd public drag meet as well. The majority of our roads are twisty and the tarmac is chip based... I'm seldom on a straight piece of road that runs for more than 1/4 of mile and I only burn out on VHT. Tyre pressures are usually 38 front and 40-42 rear. On the track I run tham at 32/32. I also run Ohlins internals on the front and a Ohlins rear shock.
On that basis:
Pirelli Strada about 8,000K - 10,000K
Dunlop 208RR about 5,000K - 8,000K
Those numbers are conservative. I could drop them by half ...and given we ride big Kwakas...its probably the norm rather than the exception.

we needed one more tire debate! I like michelins. nope they don't last but i'm in the game for traction and they are softest/stickiest by far. if i was in the game for diatnce i'd have bought a gold wing and put on pirellis or dunlaps

I dont require crazy high milage from a tire, but I would like to get 5000 miles and the stickiest rubber I can. I dont have the setup to change them myself and its a pain in the ass to have the dealer do it....I ride all year round ...my commute involves 60 miles a day with highway and city pavement involved....and I didnt buy a 14 to go slow.

i swapped out the original bridgestones at 2900, the back was shot and the front was ok, but after i replaced with michelin pilot powers(front and back) i realized the front was was washing out in hard cornering. what a difference the pilot powers made, they are glued to the road for sure. highly recommend. i will post more info when they wear out.

+1
gotta' love the Michelins. I'll be running Pilot Race compounds this weekend on the track after the chicken-hawk tire warmers heat 'em up..... they're so soft and gummy you can see your finger print in it

Yea at those prices buying stands are a good deal.
Got 5100 miles out of the stockers with some life left in back.( Winter riding miles in the rain)
I put Pirelli Stradas on for hopes of longer life AND their reputable greatness in the rain. Just did my 1st track day on the Stradas and they did fine for what they are.
Of course I couldnt hammer the throttle on exits and the front would slip on hard lean angles on entrances of lower speed corners. A faster rider might have big problems with these tires but I'm just a slow Old Guy who found the edge of traction for these tires and didnt push myself or the tires.....,much.
Everyones tires were melting, I guess its normal??!! I don't know. It was my 1st track day.
They did a wonderful job of sticking during VERY harder braking coming down from 170 to 80 for the first corner. They also didnt slip on fairly aggressive trail braking into medium speed corners.
Tip in requires more effort than the stockers.
Bottom line, a decent tire for regular riding and great in the rain (I live in Wa. state )
but I'm switching to something like the Pirelli Dragons or whatever for the remainder of the summer

I'm running on a set of Metzeler M3. They're much (no, MUCH) strickier than the OEMs, the rear tyre has done some 5000 miles and it's good for another thousand or two. It's not a touring rubber, however, keeping it round needs some track days. There's a strengthened version M3C also available. In the Motorrad magazine's tyre test a year ago (or so) the Pilot Power and the M3 finished first and second.
