lock-up time?

Well the other night i ran my bike at the dragstrip, best time ever and mph was awesome for me. 9.00 at 162 and change. i came home and thought everything was fine. changed my oil. was getting it ready for the next track outing. took the bike up the street. clutch slips at the little bit of throttle. First im thinking it was the oil? nah couldnt be. Took it apart and cooked badd. think its it time for a lock-up? Im thinking of cleaning out the oil pan also the clutch material must be in there. Any ideas would be great.

The best of the ideas you already know about, cleaning the clutch material out of the oil pan and pick up screen .

Although I haven't heard of many going to the lock up it may not be a bad idea. The only problem is that it may not solve your clutch issues. The lock up is going to keep the clutch engaged at high rpm and high load on the big end so if that is where you are getting the slipping you are on the right track. However, if you are like me and most others out there the clutch wear is coming from the intentional slipping at the launch, the lock up is going to do very little for this. Since you just changed the oil you could probably get away with not dropping the pan for a while. I talked to Cary Aspy, the engine builder at Schnitz, and he recommended dropping the pan every two clutches and making sure you not only clean the pan but also the pick up for the oil. He said the clutch matter could plug or restrict the flow of the oil and starve the motor.

Hope this helps

I went thru 5 clutchs lastyear, pulled my pan and the pick-up was clean. I have a lock up and so far so good. You gotta remember when it's locked its locked, you cant pull the clutch back in. Depending on how many pass's you had on that clutch just replace it and think how fast you would have went on a fresh one....
