pulling flies out does what?

Bros,

I still have my flies in, If i pull them will i damage the bike. I will get a pcIII later on if i can find a cheap on somewhere. and what about the ram screen, pull that also or not. I live in a place where its seems like i am on a raft surrounded by busas. They all want a piece of me, and i want them to get all they want. so what can i do for now to keep them away because they are hungry. please help your brother out.

Pulling the flies will provide much more low down grunt. And I mean a lot! You should get a PC3 as more air need more fuel for optimum performance. It causes a lean condition down low at about 3500rpm. Shouldn't cause immediate harm but I would rather have the fuel map correct at all RPM for my own piece of mind. Pulling the RAM air screen will not do squat. Get a BMC airfilter instead.

Also just do a search for pulling the flies. Lots of info on this site. Get out that long screwdriver and get to work!

+1 use the search. there is a plethora of posts related to flies out. Also there are directions above in this forum specifically for using google to search this site.

and what about the ram screen

There is a screen on the stock air filter that you can remove that will help, but removing the one built into the ram air opening probably won't do any good. I'd leave that in to keep the small flying objects out

"pulling flies out does what?"
restores the awesome top gas low end that kawasaki was afraid to give the average squid
flies allow the less than average rider to get out of the parking lot intact
this is a serious bike but if you got one you know that
pull the flies if you want the potential that they gave this awesome bike
it is a great ride either way but it is much more responsive on the bottom end without flies
basically set on kill all the time

Regarding the other bikes, just smile when you see them on the street. Be friendly. You have nothing to prove. You can always break the ice by asking them questions about their bike. Works well with women too. Always ask them questions. They will love to talk about themselves and when this happens, they'll like you and have no need to want to race. Eventually you tell them you don't know how to race, or don't like to race... and then tell them about all the accidents your fellow bikers on this site are having with the 14s. Tell 'em you're too young to die. They'll understand.

Yes, pull the flies out, But be sure to have a GOOD screw driver. Because those screws have soft heads. Also I read that you really need a map set up for no flies or you can lean the bike out and possible damage something. Go to Brocks web and read the 14 diary.

Had the flies out for a month w/o a pc. She didnt blow or bing. But its a pain to not cruise in the "lean zone" 3500rpm give or take 500rpm. So google up a cheap dynojet ($250 +s&h cheapest I found on fleabay) and get the whole improvement and piece of mind.
Oh and you'll love ther bike without flies. Its just easier to ride. The power increase is easily manageable but abrupt throttle movements get instant response. Unlike the lag or mild response with flies. My passenger really liked much smoother the bike is w/o flies. No more jerkiness.
Mine came out easy, but I'm a good mechanic.

I've owned my ZX14 for about a month now and have been reading most of the posts here with particular interest in "removing the flies".

Today I had the dealer remove the "flies" and reprogram the PCMIII on my bike and am happy to report as many of you have that this procedure produces a smooth and much more powerful low to mid range boost. It's perfect!!! The lead tech in the shop where I had the work done said that they should do it to all of the ZX14's they sell.

For anyone hesitating ..... don't, just do it

Dave

If everybody is telling you that they are extremely easy to remove, that all you need is a long screwdriver, to do a search on removing flies on this site, and that their is lots and lots of information on removing flies. Why would you wont to go to the dealer just to have that done? How much did they charged you just for that service? you mean to tell me that they did not try to talk you out of it? No, we won't warrant the warranty?

Warranty is unaffected. They did not try and talk me out of it. They charged me $268.70 which included downloading the new map for the PC III.

I had the dealer do the work because I didn't want to "screw" something up. It was worth it to me.

It's cool, Dave. Don't let these grease monkeys get to you. All they are trying to say is that some maintenance is so easy that it will be crippling financially to not do it yourself, but if $268 is worth a peace of mind for you then it is money well spent. I do not believe I have ever heard a horror story on this site about a fly-job gone badly, other than a couple fumbled and difficult to retrieve screws. Enjoy it man!
