Hi Mile Advice

Hi All,
I need to get some input from you all.

As most know I ride both a VFR and the 14. On the 25th If all goes well the ZX will hit 25,000 miles. My VFR has a little over 91.5K and I suspect I've ridden most of the value out of that bike. In other words the VFR might be worth 35-3800 dollars with 92K but if it had 120K on it I might knock it's worth down to 3000 dollars (she still looks pretty good all things considered). I suspect at 25K the ZX might sell around 6500-8000 depending on how badly I wanted to sell her. The next 25k will cost me about 3000-4000 dollars (and I know time alone will devalue the ZX about 1000-1500 for the next 2 years).

Question: Should I back off riding the ZX from 3 days to 2, or from 480 miles a week down to 320, and just add another day to the VFR? I suspect from a $ point of view this would be the smartest thing to do. Not to mention the VFR saves me about 1 gallon of fuel a day. Hey that's 15-18 dollars a week, ok its maybe only 6 dollars a week (and this includes all my riding).

Or should I say screw the value, I have a group of people here at the website who want to know how well the ZX holds up after all these miles? Sell the VFR and pump the miles on the ZX.

Either way this week nothing going to change, today I lost my speedometer sensor on the VFR so she is out for 3 to 5 days until a new one comes in.

Well a lot of problems I find on the VFR may haunt the ZX one day.

Robert

I say ride the one you enjoy the most!
Relative to any other mechanical projectile, the dollars to grins on any sport bike is very cheap.
I say worry about the grins!

think about it, at most $15,000 every 5 years is only $3000 a year.
Better than any vacation I ever took for $3000, and lasts alot longer than a week or 2 as well.

Ride the one that leaves you with the most bugs in your teeth.... from the grins

Yeah, ride which ever one you like the best. The gas milage advantage is that big of a difference. If you really wanted to save money, you'd get a 500 ninja or 650R. Both of those will return better gas mileage and if its just a commuter it will serve you a lot better.

This says it all, I will most likely use the VFR when we really get into the rainy season better wind protection and I hate getting the ZX wet.

The ZX clearly has the dependability advantage. It's getting to the point where I ask myself what is going to break or fail next when I ride the VFR He-he...wait a minute I really do ask that question.

Steve,
This engine is bullet proof. Switches, wiring and bearings will fail no matter what kind of bike you buy. I've gotta say I wish Kawasaki's valve train was as confident as the VFR.

Who really cares about miles....I am creeping 25k on my 06 CBR 600rr......My warranty expires in 2011. I plan to ride that bike til it won't roll anymore.

The ZX is getting the royal treatment right now....haven't put it on full duty yet.

Good point, problem is that I'm riding 160+ miles at a time so if some thing fails during the ride I have to do my best to limp my way to get it fixed. Further I'm riding at 4 in the morning so there are few stores open. I find myself very proactive in nipping any problems in the bud before things fail.

I have to admit that I could get 100K on the VFR in about 4 months if I gave her full time duty. But the ZX is so much more fun to ride...except when it rains or windy.

Speaking of a Honda 600, did you happen to sit on a new 600? and if so was it more comfy than yours?
