Muzzy airshifter issue........sorta.

Guys, I installed this shifter and from day one, had no issues at all..........until Monday when it started to lock up the transmission. I would put the bike in first gear and then it would flicker and show Neutral. I then would just normal ride the bike and it would shift 1-2, sometime 3 and none in 4-5-6. I took the shifter cylinder completely off and the bike shifts and runs just fine. I checked again for binding with the shifter on the shift fork but it free moves and has no binding like it did when I had to trim some of the shifter down.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

someone had to bend the shifter or shifter rod, but I'm not sure if it was a muzzy kit or not. Please keep us posted.

Had the same problem, and it was never resolved. Sent it back to Muzzy and they couldn't reproduce the problem. Call Murry at Muzzy and see what he can figure out.

Thanks guys. Smokin' the upper hole fits perfect and has free movement but I will also call Murray and see what he says. It is just puzzling that the unit has worked great up until the other day.

Thanks Mr. Muzzy, I will call today.

Only a thought, do you think it could be the alinement of the unit from the frame to the shifter, maybe it is off a little, or the angle of it if any......just a thought.

Well I got home today and did like Smokin said and just slightly opened the hole up that connects to the frame bolts and slightly bent the shifter just a tad and that seemed to have it working fine either foot shifting or with the regular air-shifter.

Thanks to Murray from Muzzy's as well. He called me back twice today with his thoughts and why's. GREAT customer service from Muzzy's even if I had a problem with the product, they did indeed call me back not once but twice.

I have heard using an airshifter under normal conditions can bend the shift shafts dont know if that is true but I have heard you should only use air shifter when shifting at higher rpms

I'm glad you got it fixed Brent .. If the air shifter has ANY bind at all it will not work....I noticed when installing my ram that i had to kind of force it to hook up to the shifter ...By reaming out the upper hole on the ram it would removed that tiny bit of binding...From time to time i add alittle lube to the mounting points ..Muzzys air shifter is a great unit but as any race part it will need a little rubbing here and there ....Smokin..
