Just installed my smeg with the pc3. What an awsome pipe it is, but now on decel it will pop and shoot a ball of fire out the back. It looks cool and all but i was wonderin if this is normal. as for the popin, i did do the air box mod and tightend the throttle body boots.... comments???

When the fire comes out it helps to have your stick and marshmellows in the right position. This is when a passenger comes in handy. Don't hold the stick yourself as this can be very dangerous.

Next month Brock is releasing his popcorn popper. It's a small mesh box that attaches at the end of the s-meg. Pour the corn in and when your ride is over... waaaalllla! Your popcorn is really-- The "Butter flavored Exhaust" is going to be a top seller. The drag guys will love it!

kawiguy3,

Brock may respond to this string too. I was experiencing the same popping on most deceleration. I spoke to Brock and he said it was probably caused by some loose, "hose" type clamps that go around some rubber rings by the throttle bodies. You can see the clamps around the intakes just above the cylinders on both sides of the motor. My took several turns to tighten, and now I only get popping on heavy engine decel, which Brock recommends to avoid.

I apologize if my engine terminology isn't correct.

If you go to Kawasaki's website and bring up the parts diagram for the zx-14 it's part no. 92171 under the "Cylinder Head" section.

My t-body clamps were loose on the intake side (the air box side was tight) It took like two turns to get them tight. also i did not know that heavy decel was a bad thing?

Not sure if this is right or wrong, but I was always taught, in drag racing, to not let the engine decel from WOT, UNLESS you have a lock-up or slider clutch.

I always cross the quarter-mile, close the throttle, and then pull the clutch in.

I've done this for 4 years with no problems.

On my old ZX-9, when I started drag racing, I used to let the engine decel without pulling the clutch in, and it ended up breaking apart the clutch basket. That's when I was taught to pull the clutch in after the finish line, and have done so ever since with no problems.
Like I said though, not sure if what I do is right or wrong, but it works for me.

Aside from clutch damage, I was also told that other engine internals can get damaged, not sure what they are talking about though.

I like the flame too. Scared the hell out of my buddy. He's still afraid to pull the flies on his 14 so he had no idea what was coming.
