I'm done foot shifting....

Anyone out there share their advice or experiences with their button shifting setup? I'd really like to even the playing field with my slower than average foot shifting.

links are cool too, I didn't do a search....

When I first installed an air shifter on my 12, I was so disgusted I would have given it away. After a while, I wouldn't even go to race without it.
It takes some getting used to, mainly, not blipping the throttle before pushing the button. I can't shift nearly so fast by foot as by button.

I haven't installed a shifter YET, but I did start working on clutchless shifting...it's great. much smoother, and faster shifts....fyi

I re-read your post and guess you wanted to know what type shifter rather than how to use one. I had a low pressure system on the 12 with an on board compressor and it worked very good. I recently pieced together a high pressure system for my 14 and it works well also. I've heard complaints about electric only shifters, but know people (a person) who wouldn't have anything else.

Mine a Muzzy C02 air shifter ...Love it !!! Plug and play ... Never missed a shift !!!!

Spencer Cycle and MPSracing sells good kits.
Electric over air works good which is what I prefer.
Some dont like air and having to mount bottles so they go with all electric.
Schnitz sells a coil harness that really makes it easy to DIY.

I still foot shift my 12, Ohh and went my best ever todate with a 9.11 @ 152.99, 61 1/2 wheelbase!!!

CrotchRocket I know you've been foot shifting for some years now. Do you think you would pick up by going to an airshifter? Reason I'm asking is because I've only picked up .04 with the shifter I dont even think it was the shifter I believe its the gas. Some swear you can pick up almost a tenth. I was hoping for more but it only given me better consistency.

BTW, You making ou bikes look bad.

I'm baD at shifting. Kinda slow actually. I'd rather use the time and effort I spend footshifting and use it somewhere else. Time isn't everything to me, not yet anyway. I look at dragracing and Landspeed stuff as a juggling act.>>> Keep the tire down, traction, tuck, shift, tuck, etc, etc. Right now I spend too much effort shifting IMHO.

I use a power commander quick shift button and it works nice - still foot shifting but I hit the button and footshift at the same tim. This works for me as it is very similar to my VRod set-up - although I have a pingel electric that I never trusted to work on its own - so I shift with my foot at the same time as I hot the buton - of course I also have the knickname of SloPoke among my Harley racing friends..... After reading this forum I am kinda liking the idea of an air shifter for my bike. I especially like the fact that you can turn them off and use the foot shifter when you want.

Go with Muzzy IMO. It is absolutely complete as a kit and uses the stock frame bolt location to mount the top of the shifter and NOT have to drill into your frame for such a kit. Trust me, it works great.

Good luck to all that are out there trying to get something going.

I read on the Muzzy site that you use the horn button in order to turn it on and off... does that mean you are without a horn, or did you add a button or something for that?

Yes you do use the actual horn button to shift with but they give you a new toggle switch that lets you go from shifting function using the stock horn button to using the horn with the stock horn button by switching the toggle from shifter to horn. Muzzy did this kit to where you still retain the horn, just toggle from shifter to horn "OR" from horn to shifter. Whichever you want at the moment.

You will not be disappointed IMHO in the Muzzy kit. I just installed mine and was absolutely pleased.

I will add that you better know how to be patient, mechanical skills and the ability to take pins out of the stock harness plug or your Power Commander plug. This kit is simple to install but if you aren't mechanically inclined then you will have problems with the kit.

Jeff, the first thing I did after getting home was order a Quick Shifter from DynoJet. I'm still have to foot shift, but don't have to let go the throttle anymore, just wait for the shift light and shift.

Made my own. Auto or button (horn), co2 9 oz w/on-off switch, killed thru the pcusb with a rpm limit ( will not allow a shift below the rpm you set, 150 psi reg., works perfectly. I'll post pics if anyone wants.
