Turned the 14 Lose Yesterday

Hey guys i made it to the dragstrip lastnight and had a very less than stellar performance. i have my 14 slightly lowered 16/43 gearing, muzzy pipe, stock arm and flies removed. Oh yeha i am 260. This was my first time launching the beast and man i tell you i suck i started out with a 7.53 in the 1/8 mile and a 180 60 ft. However by the end of the night i was at 6.76 and 6.80's with a 1.50 and a 1.54 60 ft. She a mess to hold down but i managed on a few passes i tell you. though i have not gotten use to the bike i am dissapointed because of the time i use to run on my zx12 5.90 to 6.10's but hey i have been riding a 12 since 2000 plus it has an arm and a air shifter. however for the most part if was a beautiful day and i made it to the track and back safely so i am happy. My biggest problem was getting my feet up and missing gears and over reving due to the fact of missing gears. Can you say muzzy airshifter and NOS ordered today. Cant wait to get it and installed i think with those on i may see 6.30's with shifter and with a little spray maybe 6.00's. Any pointer and comments well welcome except for i need to diet.LOL

I'd be tickled to get in the 6's. I haven't raced my 14 yet, plus I came off a 600cc to this beast, so 6's might not be in the cards for me the first time to the track.

Stick an extra o in that word. Lose and 14 don't go together. Lol!

Sounds like a good first time out to me. Keep practicing.

No dragracer here or have a 14. I always liked the 12 and lurk here daily anyway I have a very light big bore 1070 gsxr 1000 180ish hp all cf, wheels yada yada.

Boy was I shocked and embarassed at the times I ran the first, second, third hell I think it was about the 25thor so run I ever could get a decent run at the local 1/8 track now closed. I weighed around 190lbs than closer too 200 now and was running low 7's in the 1/8th.

I was very frustrated but everyone said more practice and it will come.

I never really got committed too hitting the track enough because I worked a lot of hours and a very stressful job along with almost an hour of traffic to deal with and hot humis Florida air not exactly motivated...

But than but there was a period I went every tuesday and eventually got down to my best 6.4 with consistent 6.5-6.6's with major wheelspin half way down the track. My bike had a lot more in it but the moral to the story it takes lots of practice-on a regular basis for most of mortals.

Sounds like your not new too the game and 260lbs those are great times!

Rick

I was holding her pretty good at stock wheel base leaving at either 2 or 2500. Hell with the bike being stretched at 7 inches I was leavin at 3500 and she has come up on a couple of occasions. When I ride MRCLEAN's. I launch at 3000 due to the fact that he is a tad bit shorter than I but he has a strap! Now once I strap her. It will be 4500 for me but try and play with her at around 2500 and stay on that clutch a little longer. as long as you stay tucked in the bike, you should feel what is happening and react according. I like the little saying a guy told me that goes turn your clutch into your throttle on the launch! Kind of confused the hell out of me at first but I understand now!

Hey Knight do you think the strap makes that much of a difference. I am lowere in the front at the tubes about 1.25 to 1.5 inches i cant remeber its been so long since i did it but there is room to pull her down more i already have the brock stap blocks on since day one. all they have been is for looks because i yet to use them. I guess i will buy one today.LOL

I never noticed much difference with a strap during launch, but it makes a huge difference up toward the top of first. You know how the front wheel gradually starts heading up and you have to short shift first to second to keep from having to let off? That's where the strap makes a big difference.
